Strange thing just happened (front brake problem?)

I was making a run home, and on my way back as I was slowing down from about 120/130 for the off ramp, I heard a low toned "pop...pop" from the front left tire. I was braking pretty good but not real real hard.

I braked hard a few times afterwards and the brakes seem to be working fine...

They are stock '92 brakes, with new pads (less than 1000 miles)

When I stopped there seemed to be some smoke coming from the tire (it was very dark and I couldn't see too well).

Thoughts?

You mean besides not doing 120 MPH on a public road?? I'd start by checking all of the suspension components and disassemble and check the brake pads.

As far as the smoking I wouldn't take a guess w/o looking at it. But for the popping, did you put anti-sieze on the caliper slides? Just a thought since you were slowing down quite a bit. Hopefully that can help.

Pull the rim off and inspect the brake parts and other related items around it. Better safe than sorry.

OMG OMG I can't beleive an SHO owner would actually do something like this!





Right so anyways, I'll pull it apart tomorrow, the pins were lubed with new synthetic grease, and the pads were installed correctly, I've done it a thousand times. (Not to say I couldn't have made a mistake, heheh)
