OK I've been trying to figure out a whoop whoop whoop noise eminating from my front pass side wheel for several months. The noise is constant and while under movement above approx 20 mph. While turning right the noise reduces to near zero (as weight is shifted off the right wheel) and when turning left is more pronounced. Tires are new and have been moved around to eliminate the tire. As well I've swapped the rotor and still have the same problem.

I'm starting to lean towards the hub/bearing assembly and have one in hand to replace it already. out side of that the CV half shaft is the only other item I could think of which I have wiggled and jiggled (while installed) to check for any obvious play.

Thanks
Curtis

Being that the noise does go away when the load is reduced, i would lean toward it being the wheel bearing.

Right wheel bearing is bad, now you need to look if its front or rear.

Ill second that! it does sound like a wheel bearing.......typically i would do the front 2 just because if one is going out then the other is not to far away from death either.

The rears are cheap (relatively) and easy. About $50 each for the bearing and hub.

The front is more of a pain. But the best way is a new knuckle. This also gives you a new ball joint and is somewhat easier to install than trying to just replace the bearing. But the cost is quite a bit more. Unless you get your new knuckles for $50 each. :naughty:

Paul,

Just wondering if you have replaced just the hub and bearing assymble. If so I noticed that Ford designed it around throw away hub to knuckle bolts (qty 3) and axle nut. Have you ever reused any of these or should I aquire new ones.

i had a simular sound coming from my front right tire for a week. I thought for sure it was the bearing but turned out just to be a piece of chrome that had rusted off the inside of the rim that was rubbing on the tire.
It my car sounded like a jet taking off, it was that loud!
