Hey hunnies, Hav I got a DooZie for yaLL! I've gotta WEIRD scenario goin on here, the previous owner of my car was VERY good to the car during its life and judging by the service records it's possible that he was screwed around on some repairs. The first week after I got my car I had a very shall we say..... Spirited launch and hit second gear just RIGHT, Right enough to be assaulted with the loudest uncorcked sound ever. What happened was the previous owner had the junction where the Y pipe meets the rear exhaust pipe and WELDED ... Ya, meaning that any thoughts of me doing the rod bearings has been COMPLETLY thwarted.

The only solution I had at the time was for the exhaust shop to RE-weld the existing boneheaded weld and go on. Whats my solution gonna be for this problem? All I see so far Is buying an aftermarket Y-pipe and mating that with a complete cat-back bought from Ebay or some other sort of used source. Strangely enough I have a pik of the DufuS repair when I bought it and I was too clouded wit SHO <3 to even hav noticed it.:ohreally:

That piece is the welded piece that is blockin me from doin my rod bearings or even upgrading to ANY sort of y-pipe upgrade hunnY. What to DO?

You're going to have to replace that junction with a proper ****** and gasket, lest something more important, like, say, a manifold for instance, cracks and also requires replacement or repair.

Besides, the stock Y-pipe is horrible.

Nothing like a legitimate excuse to replace broken stock parts with an upgrade. :thumb:

I know the stock Y-Pipe sux and had intentions of replacing it with a proper performance Y-pipe in the future when the money permitted, but wat i'm saying is when the y-pipe IS replaced am I gonna have to replace everything behind it to correct this?

isnt there supposed to be both a ****** AND a braided style flex pipe in there ?

someone here w/ a junk exhaust out next to their shed should be able to whack off the parts you need, then go to the parts store and get some exhaust couplers & clamps, whack out the middle of that welded in pipe with a sawzall and clamp in your replacement parts.

HotRodKid on the MTX cars there isn't a flex pipe so to speak, it's a gasket and 2 springs on the side to make room for Flex and engine movement which this rigid repair makes NO provisions for. When I hit it it just cracked at the weld and HARD! Even think I chirped THIRD gear:dribble: lol.

No. Any competent exhaust shop can correct that and install a proper ******.

ah, wasnt sure about the flex, somedudes atx had a ****** (cant remember if it was a spring loaded ball coupler) and then a flex behind it also

the ballcouplers are available from flowmaster for like $80, and they are clamp on, but any way yo do it youll need to allow yourself room to modify it later IF you dont plan on doing a y pipe AND a cat back exhaust at the same time

Buy a Y-pipe and ****** the end. Weld in a flex pipe, install flat gasket and it's repaired. This is not the first time I've seen a "good muffler shop" do this kind of a hack of a "repair". :shakehead
