When i start up my car from a cold start, i get about 1-2 seconds of valve clatter at first. Then it goes right away. I use Castrol GTX 5w-30. I thought i would try that lucas oil stabalizer. It actually worked. Everything seemed great. I left my car for about 9 hours overnight and when i started it the next morning, there was no valve clatter. Well last night, i let my car sit for about 12 hours and when i woke up I had valve clatter. how the heck can i get rid of this? I don't want things to start wearing down inside. Is it bad for the car to have valve clatter on start up?? Would it be better to try a different oil? Do you think the lucas oil has to be in there for more miles to start lubing things up? Please help.

Try 10W-30 Castrol GTX. You're starting the engine up with 5W oil in the crankcase. The valve clatter amy be from overly large valve gaps that the oil can't help. How long since the las valve gapping?

Well I have never had the valve adjustment. But i did do a search on this topic and another guy had the same problem so he did his valve adjustment and it didn't help it a bit. My next oil change I will do the 10w-30 but for right now, will it hurt to have the valve clatter?
