I changed the water pump and timing belt last weekend. Ever since the change, there has been alot of coolant smoke coming off the cats. Even more than before I changed the water pump. I thought that it was just the spilt coolant on the cat when we changed the water pump that was the problem. But i've driven it for two days now and its still smoking bad. Every time i stop you can see smoke coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. It doesn't seem like I'm loosing coolant because the coolant in the overflow bottle hasn't decreased any. How long would it take for the coolant to burn off the cats. I'm sick and tired of that burnt coolant smell and want to get rid of it.

Rent a pressure tester from an auto parts store. All you do is screw it onto the radiator and pump it to put pressure in the system. From there you will be able to find your leak. Good luck.

check ur front main seal. i worked with my whole coolant system and it wasn't leaking and yet i still had smoke coming out of the engine. so i looked inside the wheel well while the car was on and i saw that oil was dripping from the front main seal behind the crank right onto the cats. it was then smoking like crazy. that might be your problem.

You can visually examine the drip port below the crankshaft damper to see what, if anything, is dripping on the front cat. The port is at the lowest portion of the bottom timing belt cover and you will see either coolant drips or oil drips if you have a leak from the water pump or front main seal (or camshaft seals).
