Decided to finally put a CD player in my 92 SHO. Did a lot of reading and decided i would just bypass the SHO wiring and run new wire to all four speakers. Had to run a new constant power wire. But used the factory ignition power wire and also the factory ground wire. Problem is when i hooked it up, it sounded fine for a bit and then no sound. Tried a second stereo and also worked for a bit and then no sound. Stereo lights up and says its reading the CD but just doesn't make any noise. Did burn up my deck? Or is it the positive and ground i used? Any help would be great thanks for reading.

Did you buy the harnesses or did you just go at it with a pair of wire snips and electrical tape?

why bypass the factory power wiring? i've never had a problem with it. test the head units in a different vehicle, then reuse the factory power wires (red switched, yellow constant) and chassis ground the deck to the steel bracket the ashtray's bolted to. then check to make sure none of your speaker wiring's pinched or crossed anywhere. are you bypassing the stock amp?

i don't know about a 92 but in my 93, when I bypassed the factory amps I didn't use the wiring harness that goes to the stock player - there is a factory amp bypass harness in the dash - it's in the hole where the stock player was and to the left up in there. Then you just buy a harness to hook to that stock harness and there you go - bypass amps and speakers are powered right from your new deck.

So you ran new speaker wires from the HU through to the doors through the rubber tube things right? And ran the rear speaker wires under carpet to the rear deck?

Had to run a new constant power wire.

Why? And how did you do this? Directly through the battery? Through the firewall where?

But used the factory ignition power wire and also the factory ground wire.
Double check your ignition wire in the off and on key positions - can never be too sure, no harm in double or triple checking. Lose the factory ground, ground to chassis or something sufficiently ground.

Problem is when i hooked it up, it sounded fine for a bit and then no sound...second stereo...worked for a bit and then no sound.

Fade out? Normal audio quality at first and fade to silence? Or Normal audio quality fade to ****** audio quality and then cut to silence? More description of the transition might help me identify root cause of only killing sound.

Stereo lights up and says its reading the CD but just doesn't make any noise. Did burn up my deck?

Probably. In any case, working HU but transitioning to no sound points to...

internal amp being toasted, internal fuse blown, no signal input, insufficient ground, insufficient power wire, low voltage battery, or user error.
