Last week I started to notice a slight whine from the steering, but it wasn't really very loud and seemed to go away after driving a little bit.

Today, it got a lot more noticeable and wouldn't go away regardless of how long I drove for.

It only occurs when I turn the wheel (left or right) 1/2 turn or less.

Do you have any suggestions as to what it might be? I'm not really familiar with electric power steering.

What year SHO, Kevin? Can you tell where exactly the whine is coming from (wheel or column)? Might be a loose connection in the steering column, might need some grease, or might be the module itself. I would take it in for service, since the air bag is part of the whole assembly.

It is a 2013. It is hard to tell exactly where it is coming from, but I will try and listen closer today. I was thinking that it really could be anything.

You think if there is an issue, it could cause the airbag to malfunction?

Do you know of any fixes that could be attempted before taking it in?

No idea whether the air bag is involved in any way, just raising the possibility, what with the recall.

You can look for codes, but that would be the extent of it unless you are comfortable depowering/repowering the Supplemental Restraint System.

I ended up taking it to the dealer for a few things, but the whine ended up going away a few days before I brought it. The service advisor said bring it back if it reappears, but the tech went through everything with the steering and couldn't find anything. I'll update the post if it happens again and the dealer diagnosis it
