Steering Wheel shaking when break

In the following 2 sistuations, steering wheel is shaking hard like almost something will be broken.

#1, suddenly stop. The shaking move from brake to rack and all way up to steering wheel;

#2, downhill, with 60-70 and hit brake to turn curb, just down to 40-50. The shake will be from rack way up to steering wheel. very scary.

This happen before new rack, and now with the repalcement of rack.

Brake problem? Suspension?

Ive had this happen while going down Bent Mountain, I was unexperienced, and rode the brakes the whole way.

By the time I reached the bottom, I was experiencing brake fade, and warped rotors.

Luckily they fixed themselves.

Sounds very much like the infamous rotor warp... IMHO, invest in a set of vented 96 brakes.

I would confidently guess that your rotors are warped. Easy, easy easy fix. Figure out on which end the rotor is warped, i.e. front or rear. And replace both rotors and brake pads. 60-70 bucks in parts for a set of pads, and two rotors.

Most likely it is the front if you are really feeling it.

Check your tie rod ends, if they were not replaced with the rack. If they're new, I'd say rotors too.

If his steering is shaking violently, it would be his front, no?

As for my story, my brakes didnt warp bad, but they can fix themselves. When the brakes heat up way too high, they can distort, as they cool down, they can generally fix themselves, just so long as you dont do it repeatedly...

And yeah, I know now to use lower gears.

Sounds like rotor warp.......

if you feel it in the wheel, it is the fronts. if you feel it on your *** , its the rears. generally speaking.

Brakes do not fix themselves... You need to investigate other issues!

Speaking from experience, sounds like front rotor warp. I had my rotors turned about a year ago, fixed it right up. Though, the '96 brake upgrade is definitely one of those things I would like to have... mmm... 11.6 inches of rotor...

Don't have a chance to look up the rotor yet, but got both Valucraft rotors and PFCM #4214S according to http://www.shoforum.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=002106#000001TYSHO's advice</a>. I will update later. The car just with new TRE, inner and outer, with new Gen III rear subframe bushes. Unless torque error, the problem now seems from rotors, more possibly, the front one. Well, it is time to do rotation too, I will just check all 4 rotors, rear are Valucraft rotor and PFCM #6104 done less than a year ago, learned from this forum.

took out the front rotors, put them together, no gap between them. put them eah with new rotor, fAce to face, no gap. NO WARP? The rotor and pad still have enough to go and wear evenly.

How you judge if Warp Rotor or not?

That is not the way to check for rotor warp. Most warp you can't see by just barley looking at it. You have to put it on a brake lathe, and turn the face of the rotor. If it is indeed warped you will notice it......

Yeah I'd have to agree. Warped rotors will NEVER fix themselves.

A good way to check front or rear rotor warp is to use our crappy e-brake while driving at a decent speed to feel the rotors wobble.

Now if you get no noise or rear end movement then it is deiftnaly your fronts.

If its in the budget i'd suggest an upgrade I went through cheap AZ rotors in 3mths which was a waste of money.
