so here is the question and i know what ur gonna say. So this is more a what if question.I was think about putting in this aftermarket steering i have cause i think it would look good in the car but i really need to take to the car to see first hand. has anyone relocated the cruise control buttons to keep it useable with an aftermarket wheel installed? Proably sounds stupid but would be cool to have both

I like the way some aftermarket wheels look...

BUT

I hate the way they make the steering column stand out so much. You have this wheel with a tiny hub and right behind it, a huge column. It looks kinda dumb in my opinion.

Best upgrade IMO is the Gen 2 steering wheel. A lot nicer than the Gen 1 or the '89, but it still goes together with the rest of the car.

It is a Gen 2. For whatever reason, Ford didn't upgrade the steering wheel until 1993. Most people around here refer to the 93-95 steering wheel as the Gen 2 wheel, since your stock wheel is what's used in the Gen 1.

Either way, I'd do that way before I did an aftermarket wheel. It'd look really out of place. Try looking for a Ford Racing FR500 wheel.

you will need a lot of different parts to make a FR500 steering wheel work..... I think you change the trim around the column, airbag, cruise control buttons.. horn buttons... it gets expensive REAL quick

I think a nice gen2 wheel would work best.... is there a place where you can get new ones?

as all the cruise control buttons are simply that, you could relocate them to anything, or use custom buttons on a panel somewhere to make them work, just rewire.....

and would need to make sure the airbag was the right color and all or it wouldn't work (I think)?

yeah the actual airbag assembly has the trim piece u see in the middle of the airbag.. its all one unit

so you would have to have the right color cobra airbag as well.......

I made a thread about how ****** mine fit, and someone chimed in with some pics and what all he had to do to get it to look, almost good..... luckily for him he had a cobra to burrow parts from to see what u needed..... in fact that guy is Team Dave, he's posted on this thread already

this is the thread

It's billet, so it probably does by a tiny tiny bit. I only have it because it matched the billet **** on my old Pioneer deck, so it'd look more "factory".

i prefer the factory wheel with a skin.

the fr500 is way overpriced. and dosent fit correctly
aftermarket wheels are ok for race only cars.

in my probe when i put in my momo wheel i couldnt get the cruse to work properly. so if i had to guess id say no its not going to work.

93 ^ style with a wheelskins cover
