My 1995 SHO is slowly developing a squeek while I turn my wheels from left to right. A month ago, it was not too noticeable. It was just a few days ago that I was able to notice that the squeek is starting to get louder. It sort of sounds like rubber squeek...not a belt squeek. Any ideas as to what might be the problem?

Thanks.

mine does the same thing, its the rubber bushings above the struts. im surprised yours didnt do it earlier as its common in colder weather. you can grease em up or put in a $3 plastic plate to make it stop. no big deal though.

I was able to trim just enough excess rubber on the bearing plate to restore the clearance, thus eliminating the squeek. Need to pull the strut/spring assembly out to do it.

With this beautiful weather we are having here in PA. I was able to put my car on stands to check the tie rods. There seem to be a little bit of play on the wheel when I move it side to side. I might get a second opinion from a mechanic, perhaps there might be something that is about to go bad. However, BonBATX and PJToledo's reply is what I hope my problem really is.

Could this be my tie rods about to go bad?

If its tie rod squeaking and the steering wheel has play you've passed the point of about to go bad.

With the car on jackstands and the front wheels dangling and a helper holding the steering wheel steady you should not be able to feel any play in any direction when pushing and pulling on the tire(thats how a shop gives a 20 point inspection).

Taurus tie rod ends are so cheap if you can handle it just replace all four.
If you replace just one remember to carefully measure the distance from the collar and the zerk to get the toe-in set close enough to drive safely to the alignment shop when you are through. After replacing four you just set the toe using a long straight edge(2x4) and your eyeballs sighting down the lengh of the vehicle, that will get you to the alignment shop.

Nice thing about that is you'll know whether or not they actually aligned the car. I got screwed on a alignment before, some shops seem to gun for a 100% profit margin(otherwise known as theft).

I'm a little confused here- my car is also squeaking when I turn the wheel, do I just slather grease up on top of the strut through the wheel well, or where? It sounds odd that anything up there is moving when I turn the wheel. Can you grease the rack/tie rod ends on these cars?

I have to put mine on a stand tonight and look.

Thanx
