was just wondring how hard it is to replace the steering rack on 93 atx. when i go aound curves to the left , it feels like the steering locks for a second then it breaks free. i figured it was time for a new steering rack. and was wondering if the new rack would tighten up sloppy steering?
thanks for listening to my problems thumb

headbang is right on replacing the rack. Unless you want to dedicate a whole weekend to replace the rack I would get quotes from some shops.

Its a major PITA!!!

so i have noticed from other posts, but it seems that all the shops in my area almost refuse to do any work on any of my cars so i end up doing it myself. What would be a good price to have this done on a 93 atx i assumed it has the vpsor whatever assists the steering :)

It's not a pleasant job, but it's doable.

Drop the rear of the subframe a few inches to make the job easier.

Better further diagnose your problem first. Just put both front wheels on a couple of steel plates with some grease between them. Run the steering wheel back and forth to determine whats wrong. Remove the tie rod ends,,one at a time,, to find out if a balljoint or strut bearing may be your problem.

You can put almost anything under the wheels for this test, just put grease in the "sandwich". Better than grinding you tires into the pavement.
