Replaced the steering rack in my 93 SHO 5 speed this weekend.
1.) Do step 2 in the Helms manual, unbolt the intermediate shaft http://members.cox.net/m-d-hoesing/Intermediate_shaft.jpg first, it will make the top nut on the boot easier to remove when the shaft is tilted downward. http://members.cox.net/m-d-hoesing/Boot.jpg
2.) If any of the steering U joints don't want to release after the bolt is removeddrive a wedge in the slotted side of the U coupler to open them up.
3.) Don't remove the upper bolt on the shaft to steering wheel coupler or springs and plates fall out.
4.) The actuator http://members.cox.net/m-d-hoesing/Actuator.jpg
has 2 electrical connections, remove the pressure switch to get better access to the pressure line fitting. I also removed the actuator, placed the rack in the opening, attached the return line, then attached the actuator, then the pressure line, then the pressure sensor, in that order it gave more room for wrenches.
5.) The rack http://members.cox.net/m-d-hoesing/Racks.jpg has a small check valve at the bottom of the pressure line hole that needs to transfer to the new rack.
