starter stuck on

ever since the cold weather has been here...when i start my car up in the morning my starter stays on....even when i pull my key out of the ignition the starter wont stop running...so usually i have to open my hood and disconnect the battery to make it stop..that doesnt always help....its only on the cold days from 50 and below...so now im jumping the car in 2nd when its really cold out and of coarse the starter cant stick then...and as long my engine is warm i wont have any probs with the starter i can start the car regularly...do i need a new starter or relay or what??? its driving me crazy

It's probably the solenoid that sends the power to the starter motor, not the starter itself.

Yup, My 92 did the same thing when I installed my Y-Pipe. I must have accidently banged the Y-Pipe in to the starter because when I tried to crank it over the starter went nuts. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it, Same thing. So...I let the car sit over night, Same thing. I eventually got ****** and nailed it as hard as I could with a rubber mallet. Reconnected the battery and all was fine. However after that the starter was not working properly as I probaby busted up somthing in there...It would start...Would just take a few tries. Moral of the story? Replacing the starter is a far better alternitive then hitting it with a mallet.

Take it somewhere to someone who rebuilds them. Could just need brushes, and a cleaning. My truck is notorious for eating starters, and the spring in mine gets clogged after time, and does the same thing.

I WOULD NOT sugguest you do this with the SHO, but in my truck when it does it, I'll put it in 5th and stand on the brake and **** the motor. Usually you'll hear it click back into place when you let off the brake.. not good on the tranny tho.. lol Why I said not to do it in your SHO

well how bout that isnt that something...ok cool thanks for the help guys...earlier today i found out one of my motor mounts is broken i just dont know which one yet...i turn the steering wheel and the whole engine moves...man am i ever gunna catch up on the maintenance on this thing

If the engine is moving when you turn the steering wheel, it's the SFB's.

SFB= sub frame bushings. They are the rubber doughnuts that are sandwiched in between the engine sub frame and the car's "frame".

Whatever you do, don't get an Autozone starter. I went through 4 in 2 years. Last one did the same thing yours is doing.

I hate it when they stay on. It ****** me off for sure. And mine was a brand new starter that it happened to.

man when its warm it doesnt do it...i now park on a hill and pop the clutch in 2nd to start it, no probs then....well i cant do that rite now im trying to fix my front motor mount...like i said before mine will keep running until it gets warm and quits and then i can start it up as normal...good grief...starters
