Anyone know where I can get a starter for a 5 spd 91 plus?
I can rebuild mine if someone has one I can part. Sho shop wants 170 bucks! All I need is the electrical contact parts that look like points ignition.
I refuse to spend that much when I can see what is wrong with it. I may tear it down and attemmpt to rig it tomorrow if nobody has anything for me.
Thanks
Corey

Starters rairly "fail".

Normally they simply get gummed up and refuse to operate correctly. I have gotten many, many more miles out of various starters on various vehicles by simply by taking them apart, cleaning them, lubing them, and slapping them back together.

Simple, and VERY cost effective thumb

Recently my starter started acting up, so I found a junk yard starter, cleaned that one up, traded it with the existing, and now have another cleaned up and ready to go.

A rebuilt starter for your '91 can be quite inexpensive if you shop around. It might help if your location in your profile actually indicated where you live so we might be able to suggest some local sources for the best price. Almost everything at SHO Shop for routine repairs/maintenance can be found elsewhere for 50%-75% less for the exact same products.

That is what I figured. I am in Austin. (I was in a hurry)
I have taken the starter apart and it is fine except for the lower connection on the part that looks like points is sheered off and the pop rivet is broken. I am sure I can probably get it fixed but it will take some careful welding or new parts.
I will try Vato zone in the morning. They were already closed when I took it off the car.
thanks for all the quick replies.

You can get a rebuilt starter with a lifetime warranty at O'Reilly's for $54.99 (+$30 core, bring your old starter with you so you won't have to pay the core charge), Ultima P/N 03-0399.

NICE! I am all over that tomorrow!
I am not sure where sho shop gets off? I guess it is better qualitty parts but heck the starter is so easy to get to that I will change it twice a month if I have to.
You guys like SHoshop? Tech line was worthless today. Guy had me looking for the starter near the firewall on the drivers side....until I looked at the wires and found it right there in the front. Well at least he made me feel stupid for asking where it was. LOL :)

The SHOShop is useless exept for the parts that you can't get anywhere else. CAI snorkel, underdrive pulleys (good luck getting them in less than 2 months), supercharger kit, etc.
