Starter Motor

My '95 ATX SHO needs a new starter drive gear. The starter removed from the car has a 10 tooth gear. The new drive gear that I bought has a 12 tooth gear. I was told that rebuilt starters have a 12 teeth gear. Won't there be a clearance issue when the starter is re-installed with larger starter gear. Thanks for any help.

They are interchangeable as far as I know.

I couldn't get the 12 tooth drive to work when I rebuilt my starter.

The 12-tooth should install and work fine.
