When I start my sho (cold), the rpms rev to 2000 then drop down to normal. Isn't this TOO ******* the engine, especially if the oil has not yet circulated? Why does it do this?
It does not do it on a WARM start up.

My 95 does this also. I have been told that it does that to get the oil circulated quickly. So the engine spins up real fast at first to get he oil circulated quick. It doesn't do it long enough, or a high enough rpm to damage the engine..or so I've been told. Just my two cents.

The computer does this for emissions reasons. A cold engine produces much more emmisions than a warm engine. It is done to warm the engine up quickly.

I have posted before about a possible valve tick (not sure what that sounds like... mine sounds like I am sitting in a diesel... I can hear it at low rpms/idling.) Only does it sporadically. It did it today on my way to work. I also noticed when shifting from 1st to 2nd (at a slow speed) the tach would surge to 3,000 betwwen the gears. AM I about to throw a rod or something?
