I have only had this 92 SHO a week. Love the car.
I have a stange clicking sound that comes from around the Right Frt. Wheel area. The only time I can here it is when I first start to back up or pull forward. It makes a sound almost like when you were a kid and put a baseball card in bike wheels... thats the type of sound it is. It has not changed in the week I have had the car. I have put over 300 miles on it now. I had the wheel off 2 times now looking for the problem. I was sure it was something rubbing on the wheel, the brakes or the axle. But I could find no sign of this.
My thoghts now are that it is in the axle in some way. I know the MTX was just rebuilt about 1k miles ago.
The thing is I trust the work that was done on the motor and tranny. The man I bought the car from works at a local engine/tranny shop. I have had work done there many times with no problems. I know he did the work there. I looked at the car the first time when it was in the shop with the tranny out of it.
He would not try to screw my with bad tranny work... I gave him as well as the shop in general lots of info about SHO's.
As we all know most people in general "auto shops" as well as Ford dealers don't know how different these cars are.
They have always been cool with me.
They know I would troubl shoot any problem right here on this web site.
Thanks to everyone....

Any I deas what could cause this?
Also...
There is no fluid lost to be found.

You need to check a few things to determine where the sound is coming from. It could be:

1. Dust shield rubbing on the brake rotor
2. Loose or incorrect brake pads
3. Loose brake caliper
4. Worn wheel bearings
5. Damaged constant velocity joint
6. Interference with the rotating elements
7. So on and so on....

Possibiliites include ABS sensor ring hitting something (like the sensor), a CV boot retaining ring hitting something, CJ joint internal wear, wheel bearing, intermediate shaft carrier bearing.

Cany you induce the sound with the car on jackstands and rotating the wheel?

Does it make any difference if you are going straight or turning?

Does the sound end when you get moving or does it simply get lost in the other noises associated with the moving car?

While you can hear it, is the frequency of the clicking directly proportional to your ground speed?

Hopefully, it is something relatively minor.

Did you check to see if the cv boot is ripped. If so dirt/sand could be causing this problem. If that is what it is you might be able to just replace the boot and repack the cv with grease. Thats what i did and save myself some $. If the boot isn't ripped try to get one of your friends to drive the car and sit in the passenger seat. open the window to see if the clicking noise gets louder with more speed. IF so it is the wheel bearing. If the heat shield was rubbing/grinding you could see it with the wheel removed.good luck.

You might also try looking at your front struts. The fronts are "usually" quite easy to replace. It may take as long as an hour to get both fronts done but well worth the time and effort. Good luck.

I had checked for any type of rubbing.
Could not find anything.
I checked all of the things I could think of. Most of the things you all have listed.
There are a few things I will look at... now after reading this your postings.
Thanks...
