SHO stalled as soon as I pulled into my friends driveway today. Started sputtering and then just gave out. Would not turn back on. CEL was on so I checked the code. P0087. Just my luck, the book only listed codes up to 0086 so I googled the code and found low fuel pressure. I had just filled up the car so I figured it was bad gas. Put a bottle of drygas in it and it fired right up and ran fine. Should I drain the gas? BTW, when I went back to the station the attendant told me to go F myself. Filing a chargeback on monday.

I'm kinda **** so I always use Sunoco 93 and go to a high volume station. I did have something similar the other day. I pulled out onto the highway and the engine cut. Then I noticed I had it in manual and it hit the rev limiter. Oooopppps.

It was regular from Gulf. I normally go to shell but Gulf was more convenient at the time. Never again. I'm still not going to put in premium, just going to Shell for now on.

Although you still run the risk of getting a bad batch or contaminated premium as well , I do not understand why anyone would buy a $40k vehicle, particularly a performance oriented model and would not be willing to pay $3-4 difference a tank for the performance and benefits higher octane provides? Even if you fill it 50 times a year that's only $150-200 a year. Pretty cheap benefits and insurance IMHO.

To each their own and I'm not trying to offend anyone, I just don't understand it.

I helped work on that code with the duramax guys, came to find out that we were putting to much pressure into the FPR and poping the overload spring.. Duramax also run 22000lbs of fuel pressure..

weird! are you running a tune?

Because 40 grand is not alot of money for a car. The car can run regular, I am putting regular in it. I dont care if its 3 dollars a tank, its 3 dollars in my pocket and not in the pocket of some arab oil tycoon.

Gulf huh. I thought it was some fly by night discount type station. Maybe they got really old tanks. I don't think they use steel tanks anymore, they're fiberglass. I mentioned a high volume station because the tanks get refilled often.

In one sentence, you say $40K isn't a lot of money. Then in another, you're worried about $3. Also, you can go to stations that use North American oil exclusively.

I said $40k is not alot of money for a car. I do not care about the 3 dollars, I care about the 3 dollars going to some oil tycoon. The only gas stations I know that don't use middle east oil are Conoco and Citgo, neither of which I am actually sure of, and neither of which are within 10 miles of my house.

I'm perfectly fine with using 87 octane in vehicles that can't really take advantage of higher octane as long as it is a high quality fuel brand, with a top-tier brand my preferred fill (usually Shell or Chevron).

Gulf is definitely a blast from the past for me. Haven't seen a Gulf station in Florida since the late 80's or early 90's. They just didn't do well here.

High traffic stations help with obtaining fresh fuel too as PonySHO mentioned but sometimes you really don't have a choice, especially if the car is run until you absolutely have to get some gas. We use 87 all the time in my wife's '08 Honda Odyssey although I'll probably give 89 a shot at some point as it sometimes improves mileage in some vehicles, although the Odyssey gets pretty decent mileage for a minivan with 87.

However when it comes to any vehicles ($40K or otherwise) where premium is recommend let alone required and/or a performance oriented vehicle I take no chances and like knowing I'm getting all the performance I paid for out of the car as well as making sure the engine runs smoothly and cleanly. Especially with the SHO being DI, running turbos, AND high compression, high quality 93 is all I'll ever use, any unforeseable emergencies excepted of course.

Funny enough the car I just sold in order to get the SHO was a 2006 Subaru Impreza STI (awesome car!) and while the manual did say that you can temporarily use 87 if necessary with reduced performance, it really recomended/required 91 minimum with 93 preferred. Not sure how exactly the SHO manual reads as mine is scheduled for delivery May 5th.

I hope the stalling thing gets resolved for you with the fuel additive. :)

Just an FYI... Citgo is essentially Venezuelan owned, you know, that crazy f**k Hugo Chavez. Just to give you an idea, read the first couple paragraphs: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/01/21/hugo-chavez-mouthpiece-says-hit-haiti-earthquake-weapon/ It's a bit off subject, but I won't go to Citgo no matter what. Sorry, I'll step down now.

How about Marathon stations, where does their gas come from? We also have Sunoco but they are doing the 10% ethanol thing....
