I have the same stalling symptoms as e_clouser and I believe that it is the CKP. When I retrieved codes the only one that I got was the PIP one.
My question stem from the fact that on three occasions when the engine stalled I was travelling at 40MPH or more. As I watched the tach went to zero but the odo and other guages stayed active. I pumped the pedal and the engine came back to life with the tach responding accordingly.
Is this indicative of the crank position sensor intermittantly failing?
When it stalls at low speed I can sometimes restart it immediately or after a few cranks. However, yesterday it left me stranded in traffic and I had it towed home. The truck driver was able to start it and drive it off the truck to unload it at my house.
The car is a '95 ATX with 66K on the odo. I recently purchased it in Phoenix as the second owner and drove it home 2K miles to Jax, FL. It never missed a lick during the entire trip. It does need maintenance and I believe that this CKP is only the beginning.
