i had a 92 with all black interior and my 93 had mocha well i swapped all i wanted from the 92 which was nothing but body when i was done. well now i got the black interior in my car and i didnt like the steering wheel for the 92 how its all boxy so i kept my 93 steering wheel.
now the thing is all black interior and dash and all with a mocha steering wheel...
is there someway to stain the interior pieces to be black now because i dont wanna buy a new sheeting wheel and all. even tho i guess im gonna need one since the owner before me fixed the ingition with JB weld and theres no way of getting the switch out without some major BFH.
i know spray paint just falls right back off because i lost a pillar from the black interior and i need to use my mocha one and i tried painting and became no good its back to mocha.
a friend gave me an idea of using kiwi black polish or something to stain it black. im not sure that would work on the pillar since thats plastic but it might on the wheel being leather.
any help would be great... always guess i could get a new steering wheel all black and hopefully find a black pillar in some junk yard but thats the problem being there is no SHO's in any junkyard near me.

Which pillar? A pillar? B pillar? I guess A pillar... but which side? And as somebody in the military, I can tell you right now you do NOT want to polish something you actually want to touch. If you polish your steering wheel you will have black hands every time you go driving, and it doesn't come out of clothes easily.

I've found that taking a small, very sharp chisel to JB-weld works fairly well for breaking it, if you get it in just the right spot you will crack it right in half. It wasn't meant to resist chisels :). The chisel really has to be sharp, though. Like, cut your finger sharp.

Krylon works well on plastic. The trick is primer. And patience. And many, many very thin coats with plenty of drying inbetween.

I will keep an eye out for SHOs with black interiors; there are lots of SHOs in the hampton roads area in junkyards. I'm going junkyard shopping in the next few days; I'll let you know if I find something.

Painting plastic can suck. But there is a product called vinyl-prep that you use to wash and pretreat the plastic/vinyl. Old classic mustang guys use this to paint dash boards

thanks guys.
hawkeye18 if you find a newer style black steering wheel let me know also.
and outta the 92 mtx the console was completely different and on the arm rest part that goes up and down, know what i mean? well anyways theres 2 black caps the cover the long bolt that goes threw it. one of mine was missing when i got the car.
o and its the front pillar the one going along the front window and its passenger side... i have to warn you now they are an extreme pain to get off without breaking. the trick i learned is you wanna bend it towards the dash while your pulling. if you break it im not worried i can just glue it up.
thanks a lot by the way

If you want to paint plastic you should use SEM vinyl dye. You can buy it ate automotive paint stores and from www.eastwoodco.com. As for the wheel itself I would just buy a black one off of ebay. Ford used the same steering wheel for many years in many vehicles so finding a black one should be easy.

SEM also makes this prep stuff; you can get it wherever you get the SEM paint.
