Squeel with 4+X tune

Hi guys,

So I recently upgraded to the 3BAR and 4+x tune from LMS, and now it squeels/shrieks when I let off the throttle. I was concerned, so I put the 2BAR back in and flashed it back to stock and the noise was gone. So I decided to try the 3BAR and 93 oct 4+ tune and it made the noise again. It isnt a "whoosh" sound like a VTA (I do NOT have VTA currently). Orignally I thought it may be coming from my CAI, but I am fairly certain it is not. It happens when I let off from a 25% acceleration to WOT and anywhere inbetween. I am really hoping it isn't a turbo/turbo seal.

Thoughts?

Many people have reported a "honk" sound like a duck or goose makes when running certain tunes. Apparently perfectly normal!

You'd have to talk with the tuner to see what can be done

It starts out pretty loud and annoying, but after awhile it calms down and makes less noise. It is an unattractive noise for sure, almost had me ready to order a BOV.

I just installed LMS 93 tune with 3-bar, etc (mods in my signature) and have zero noise! Only noise is the woosh sound from my CAI or maybe even the turbos, happens when I give it partial throttle like the turbos are spooling up or something. So if you have a squeal noise something is wrong.

Barely into the boost an abrupt lift off the skinny pedal should produce a noise...be it a honk or squeak, I'm pretty sure everyone running 3bar has this. When at higher boost levels the noise does not occur.

I actually don't - nothing. Barely into the boost is a whoosh sound, no loud noise such as honk or a squeal, just a soft pleasing air-whoosh sound. Hymm??

That is a little weird, as it seems to be commonplace among 3bar tunes across the tuning companies. It's definitely less noisy in the warm months too.

Which tune are you running, OmaHahn? 4+, 4x, ???

EDIT: N/M, you have the 2013+ tune, right? Maybe some difference between the tunes for Gen 4.1 and 4.2 can account for the different sounds heard.

Yeah, Anthony at LMS emailed me back and said it is a common occurrence with the 3BAR tunes, just a byproduct of more boost.

On my 2010 with LMS 4+, I hear the spool up of the turbos at low/moderate boost. Letting off the gas I hear a '****' as boost is released.
No other noises.

Yes, this is perfectly normal with the 2010-2012 3 bar tunes. I am not sure about 2013+. 2 bar tunes do not exhibit this "honk" noise. I hardly notice it anymore unless I am looking for it. Typically, you get it when you apply boost and then back off quickly. Here is a video of my MKS going down the track. At about 1:26 of the video, you hear me back off the throttle at the end of the quarter and the noise is there.
