Spring Rates

Anybody know what the stock spring rates are? I'm doing some suspension geometry and wheel rate calcs and would like to compare them to the stock rates. Based on the stock wire diameter, coil diameter and number of active coils, I have calculated the stock rates as approximately 200lb/in in front and 150lb/in in rear. This seems low. I expected around 300 front, and 200 rear.

Anybody know?

For an Auto the info i have is that stock SHO spring rates are like 200 lbs/in. front and 160 lbs/in. rear (i verified with shotimes but had that in a comparison test with eibach combo that shoshop included with my suspension info). For what its worth sho sho also listed your SHO Shop linear's at 210 170 and eibach's at 150-250, rear spring rate is 150-190.

Those rates seem pretty close to what you calculated for a stock SHO.

Thanks Bri. The literature I got from SHOshop on my linears says "20% higher spring rate." Which would make them 220-front and 190 rear. Trying to calculate the best spring rate for my coil overs. If I limit travel to 2", a 1-G bump will require about a 500lb/in wheel rate on the front. Due to the suspension geometry, the spring rate will be somewhat higher. Shawn suggested possibly 700 front and 400 rear. Makes for a very stiff ride but very low, very little body roll and very little camber gain.

BTW, there is a open test & tune next month - I'll be needing a crew chief if you're interested in taking tire temps and lap times.

I am getting 600lb F and 350R, but I have a lighter (and less nose heave) MTX. Nice thing is, the springs are the cheapest part of the equasion, so getting a softer/firmer ride in the F/R will not be expensive.
