Im going to be going to the strip sunday. And Allthough i have replaced about everything on the car sadly im still running the original struts and springs. (sas) Im looking for a 14 sec pass so im trying to help myself anyway i can. I want to keep the massive amount of weight transfer i have down so i am looking into spring blocks for the rear. Where can i pick these up? Who is running them?

SHOBill may have some...otherwise, check the suspension section at auto zone/advanced for some spring spacers. those may work.

I can tell you they do make a difference. Only reason I dont use them now is because I have coilovers.

It's pretty crazy I saw this. I was just post about spring rubbers today. I've never really had a FWD vehicle and although the Gen IV is AWD it's still like launching a FWD. My 60's are decent (1.80) but I still think I could do better with stiffening up the rear. I looked into coilovers but no one really makes them vehicle specific.

Also, any other input or advice from you guys experienced with the front wheel drive stuff would be greatly appreciated

Does the Gen IV run a strut on the rear or is it like a IRS? If its IRS, you could try an inflatable spring inside the coils.

Oh yeah....guess coilovers wouldnt work in the rear anyway...

The airbag idea is a good one!!

Here's how it worked out:

My car has bone stock front suspension and just a set of UMI lower control arms in the rear. I stuffed a football in the right rear coil spring and put 150# of ballast on the rear bumper. I cut 1.4X 60' times with it on used $87 circle track tires.

The car is a twin-turbo fox body, FYI.

I hope you have something other than an SHO to try it on, because it's physically impossible with our strut/spring design.

Don't have a strut/spring on the Gen 4s... but I see Airlift has air coils specific for the 2010....might go that route

I like the football idea though! :)

If Air Lift does, go with it. They were never available for the earlier SHOs. FWIW, I used them YEARS ago (before most of you were born!) on my cars.

There are other tricks the FWD drag guys use, but the easiest is to stiffen the rear end.

Stiffening the right rear on RWD cars has been done for years, though I've never seen the football idea. Didn't some factory drag packs in the late '60s come with a higher rate right rear?

I think two footballs would be needed on a FWD based car. You're trying to get the fronts to stay on the ground, not trying to keep the car straight when the fronts lift.

In the late '90s, Car and Driver had an article about a guy turning high 13's with a stock motored 3800 supercharged Bonneville. The only mods were some weight reduction and some tweaking of the suspension. The biggest difference was that he installed a set of airbags between the rear body and lower arms. For normal driving he just deflated the bags, but he jacked them up to maximum pressure to reduce weight transfer to the rear on the strip.

Wheelie bars have also been used with FWD cars, though I have yet to see that on a SHO. :)

Woops, I guess I wasn't exactly clear. I was talking about the Gen 1-3 cars (Zach's Gen 2, specifically) when I said it's impossible. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work for you Gen 4 guys though.

Do it! :) I imagine a couple footballs would be cheaper than the Airlift coils, though I don't know for sure.

Yep, you're right. I wasn't saying you'd only need one for the SHO. That was just my example.
