Well today I recieved a Spoiler for my 92.

First of all Some A-hole UPS man broke the tip off!!....

And secondly one of the LED's are burnt out !!

Guess it's time to be careful about auctions from EBay.....

Can anyone help with the LED bar??

I was also wondering if anyone else has installed these on a 92....and how you managed to drill the holes properly.....and did you cut through the hood inside metal?

Can't you just buy another LED? Even if you have to get a special size that Radio Shack doesn't sell, it still can't cost more than a buck or two plus shipping from a company such as Newark or Jameco.

Nope, you cant buy another little bulb, its one solid digital unit basically, so once on is bad, it will all go...

Is it expoxied into one big blob? Even if you had to replace all of them to get the color right 20-30 red LED's cost about $10-15 tops and would take a set of good hands about an hour or less to fix. I don't see how it would be difficult to change one or any of the bulbs.

Actually there is a way to replace just the individual LEDs. I have done it, but it is a PITA, to say the least. I cannot remember the exact procedure as I read it, but if memory serves me right, I'll try and explain it.

First, you need to go to Radio Shack and get the replacement LED (P/N: ), next you need to remove the RED lens assembly from the light. The RED lens is glued or hermetically sealed or something, cuz it's on there good, and it ain't going to want to come off without a fight. This part is very hard to do, and you may end up with some minor breakage around the edges (I did), but you can seal it back up when done with some epoxy or silicone. After you have the lens off, find the LED you need to replace, and with a small tipped solder gun, heat up the contacts on the backside of the board and remove the LED from it's position. I did this part very quickly by having the new one ready to go as soon as the burnt out one was taken out. Seemed to work fairly well for me. Once the new LED is back in place, TEST before reassembling the lens to the body!!!

Well, that's about it. As always, this is IMHO, and YMMV. Note that I am not responsible for any damage or anything by someone following these instructions. Just trying to help a fella out.

Later and good luck! burn_out

Ooops! Forgot to put in the P/N for the LED at Radio Shack. Here it is: SLA580LT3F, or Cat. No. 276-066B. Good Luck!

I'm actually suprised that LED's burn out on the 3rd brake light... I would think that given the proper voltage an LED could be on for many months straight...

You are correct, LED's rarely fail. I would suspect a bad solder joint first, we should try to resolder them and see if that fixes it. Are the LED's from Radio Shack as bright? Should be able to go to a truck stop and buy a generic round light with several LEDs in it. maybe I'll check one out.
