So, can I do it? I don't need the CD player, I use the Belkin tape dealio that hooks up to my Ipod/phone. I'd like to get rid of the CD player and put in the storage compartment.

It's been so long since I had stock stereo components. Is the cd player separate or part of the head unit? If it is a separate unit then you can remove it.

Its separate. I have contemplated a new head unit but 1) I haven't found one that wouldn't look too futuristic in my early 90s car and 2) most single din units that control and Ipod are fairly complicated to use. I would hate having to look all the way down for extended periods while I was dicking w/a playlist. The stereos in these things are too low.

Yeah I remember the cd getting stuck in the cd player in my old 1990. You can massage a unit into the climate control space. I've seen it done somewhere on here years ago.

I did it on my GL. Had to chop up the HVAC to get it in but it looked factory. Hesitant to try it with the SHO's HVAC unit tho.

You'd have to extend all of the wires on the slave CD harness, but I guess it would work. They make modules to use the existing dash controls with aftermarket radios, but I personally have not tried one.

I just use a wireless remote and sort of memorize the buttons & channel presets, and put all my digital music on a usb flash and not mess with external plug in players.
