spark knock

has anyone ever had problems with spark knock? My 94 has a noticeable pinging under part throttle load unless I run premium unleaded. Sometimes I can get away with running regular or midgrade with very little or no pinging. Sometimes it will ping even with premium. Car also has no codes.

Mine pings like crazy if I don't use 76/Chevron/Mobile premium gas. I have run midgrade, and I got like 7mpg.

What are the condition of your plugs and wires? Oil in the plug wells? Granted the octane will have a part to play, but if your ignition system is in poor shape it will require a higher octane fuel to run right.
