Car is a 2012 MKS. Currently has 43k miles and has a Lincoln ESP out to 2024 and 100k miles.
I have this noise and driveline vibration that is similar to a loose or touching heat shield, or a loose exhaust or catalytic converter, but you can feel it too. The condition occurs when lightly accelerating or decelerating and accelerating under a load, like up a steep grade, that is what makes me think driveline and not exhaust because it is load dependent. It is most pronounced between 55 and 75 MPH. It is still there from 35 to 90, but not as pronounced. No shuddering, no vibration in the steering wheel and no symptoms while turning or accelerating from a stand still.
Just got it back from the Lincoln Dealer last night and made an appointment to bring it back in because the noise/vibration is still there. They replaced insulators, heat shields, motor mounts and transmission mounts. I think I needed the mounts because it drives so smooth and nice now other than the noise and vibration. I previously brought it in a year ago at 30k miles and they gave it back and said they could not duplicate the customer concern. Obviously, they can now because it has gotten worse. The service ticket says the tech drove the car to verify the symptoms were not present after repair?
Anyway, no codes and I assume they inspected all drive shafts, driveline components, etc while they had it on the lift. Maybe they overlooked a heat shield or exhaust mount? I thought it was the PTU, but it does not have all the traditional symptoms of the PTU. I was thinking maybe the torque converter, but also does not meet all the traditional symptoms.
Any thoughts? My appointment is next week, they had the car for 2 weeks last time so I am not going to know for awhile. Last loaner was a Continental Black Label with the 3.0 so if they give me that again, I am ok with them keeping it, but I would like to get this resolved.
