Hope I'm posting this in the right forum.
Does anyone know what the common problems are with a soft brake pedal? When this first happened I bled the system and all was fine. It happpened again about 3 weeks later and the system was fine when I bled it again but only for about 3 days. Now I can't get a firm brake pedal back. The pedal gets firm if I pump it about 4 times. I suspected the master cylinder so I started looking around.
There is a sensor-looking thing that comes straight down from the master cylinder and it looks wet, like it's been leaking. I went to a dealer and they said they're not showing a part # for that part alone and I have to get the whole master cylinder.
Any opinions or thoughts?
What are the best places to get SHO parts from?
Thanks.
Lou.

Lou,

Soft brake petal is most of the time air in the lines or a leak. did you refill the brake fluid ? could some of it spilt down on to that wire ?? wipe it off and see if the leak is really coming from there. If it is comming from there then something is wrong not sure of the part you are talking about ill have to take a look myself.

The reservoir is full and the entire area is dry except for that sensor-looking thing and its' connector/harness. It's pretty wierd. Of course the 3.2L master cylinder is different than other cars so the price for a master cylinder is $425. I got this price from 2 different dealers today.
Thanks for the response. More are welcome. :)

SHO Nuff,

Before breaking down to buy anything from the dealer, make sure you check out FPN (Ford Parts Network) and submit a parts request form. If you do need a new part (whatever it may be), they can usually get it cheaper than any dealer would (sometimes at cost). Try them first.

I just replaced a rear caliper this weekend & have the same problem now so I know it's from air in the system. You should see if anyone/garage in your area has a power bleeder & have it done. Also have you checked for signs of a small leak that could be letting air in?
