What I think he's asking is, "What happens when you hold the gas pedal down while you're trying to start the car?"

The answer, along with most other computer-controlled cars of any brand, is that the fuel injectors are shut off while cranking. This allows you to clear a flooded cylinder, test spark without flooding cylinder, etc.

Yes, the fuel injectors cut off when you're at the WOT breakpoint... Before that point, you're adding extra fuel.


My Civic does NOT do this. With the throttle all the way down, it starts and revs freely.

It's funny you mention the Civic. When I first learned my SHO had this behavior, I had to find out if my wife's car ('00 civic) also had the WOT fuel cut. When we got both got in the car next, I convinced her (against her better judgement) to floor the gas when hitting the key... to my surprise, not only did the fuel not cut, but she was so frightened by the ****** off bumblebees under her hood that she kept her foot in it waaaay too long.. lol. needless to say I was not allowed to offer any more car related advice for awhile.

Only if you keep it to the floor after it starts....even then, the rev limiter should save the engine.
