So I changed my TPS

Now I have a CEL after the computer was reset.

I checked the codes:
KOEO
122 = TPS voltage to low.
KOER
CEL immediately starts flashing 9 as if I just did the cylinder balance test. I cannot get into the KOER test mode. The RPMs are still staying up in the 1500 range as well. I played with the screw a bit, backed it out, and the throttle stays right where it is and feels stuck when you go to rev it. Isn't it supposed to move back with the screw?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

P.S. I don't seem to be having the other issues like before. Car shifts better, and power seems to be back.

*edit* I cleaned the t-body out with some carb cleaner on a rag...no change.

I would imagine that the TPS needs to be adjusted to it's proper position, you can't just slap it on. It needs to be adjusted correctly. Messing with that screw will make your situation worse, not fix it.

I would just get it adjusted and you should be good. Did you do the idle reset?

Well, you make sure you put it on in the exact same place as the old one was....oh and don't touch the idle screw....

To make it perfect you need to tap into the wire to achieve the right voltage. Usually they replace fine if you make sure to put it in exactly right - I replaced mine about 20k ago....and it went fine.

What kind did you replace it with? You might also be looking at another issue such as a vacuum leak...causing the high idle.

It's a Wells TPS. If you look at it, it is a Ford unit with the Ford lettering and oval scraped off.

Now, what is causing my computer to go wild and flash the CEL 9 times over and over again when I do the KOER?

Turns out my original TPS had just come out of adjustment (measuring almost 1v at idle, adjusted it down to .68), and the new one was bad. CEL is gone, and engine runs codes like normal.

Thanks Doug.

I believe you want the closed throttle voltage to be at .96-.98Volts.:thumb:

Optimal adjustment is as close to 1.0 as possible without going over.

Any value above 0.6 will work okay.

Make certain the flat part of the throttle plate shaft goes into the slot in the sensor correctly. It is possible to improperly install the TPS and get some very screwy symptoms.

If I run it at 1v, the idle is to high. I measured it again after driving it, and it seemed to have settled to around .81v. Oh well, car runs great now.

From what i have seen, really anything from .6 to .9 works fine....

some cars like the .9 better though... i got the 91 to .93 and i noticed thottle tip in was increased, as well as throttle response. it was at .81 or so before...

it all depends on the car... and the TPS i suppose. Mods to the car probably have an affect on it as well...

Yep. Thanks again guys.

Now about my tach, it'll jump from stock idle up to 1500 and back and forth in a snapping motion, it's weird. Idle doesn't seem to change though. Maybe a funky wire? How would I check something like that out?

Thanks

that sounds like either something with the DIS, or a faulty connection somewhere...

allthough if it were the DIS the idle would be changing with the tach... which you say its not...
SOOO...
i would blame a bad connection.. somewhere....
