Save for 2004 and 2005 I've been every year since 01. It's FREE, it's fun, you can get up close to the cars and the drivers, it's FREE, it's an unofficial Subaru meet and you always see some unique cars (along with the race cars), we hit Big Buck Brewery Friday night for serious steak and drinks, and did I mention it's FREE?

Well, free in that there are no tickets or anything you have to buy. Just head out to the spectator stages, or if you do what I do, get a back roads map and a copy of ALL the stages and find your own place to watch the cars :naughty:

Racing starts in the afternoon on Friday Jan 30th and goes all day on Saturday the 31st. It's cold, it's camaraderie, it's bombing down snow covered backroads pretending you're in the rally (or in the case of last year when we actually ran with the rally cars in-between stages  ), most of all it's fun.

If anyone is interested let me know :thumb:

Would the route be much fun in the summer? I'd much rather be attacked by mosquitoes and deer flies than frozen moose.

Well, you still run the risk of getting attacked by a Moose, and of course there are no rally cars to watch.

But yes, driving those roads in summer is fun too

Was thinking about going out there that Friday and getting a room and staying Saturday to watch the event and take some pics.

We'll see though!

I have a room at the ******* Inn: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...Americas_Best_Value_Inn-Gaylord_Michigan.html $68/night is one of the best rates in the area, been staying there for years and it's always a pleasant stay.

We head out to the races usually around noon on Friday. We don't go to the spectator stages though  , we use a backroads map and find other areas to visit. Depending on the difficulty of getting to the spot, we're sometimes the only one there.

Friday night we feast at Big Buck Brewery in *******, quite a few race teams make their way into the restaurant.

Saturday we're out early, once again finding non-spectator spots to view the race from. Last year I had us going head to head with all the race cars on a section of road as we traveled to a spectator spot (it wasn't an official stage, but it was the only route the racers had to go from one stage to another) which was a bit exciting.

If you're planning to go let me know, we'll coordinate our efforts if you like :thumb:

Stage maps have been posted. I already have some good spots picked out

Plus, for the first time since I've been going, they're running a SUPER special stage just outside of town :dribble: That's where two cars run a closed course at the same time, and with Tanner Foust and Ken Block being there I'm expecting some serious drifting to take place

That's great news! They did this at the LSPR once way back in the day as I recall. Very fun to watch.
