I hate power antennas. I mean, what's the frickin point? Just one more fancy thing to break! Every car I've ever had has had one, and none of them have ever worked! Except the one on my 93 SHO.... until last week when I forgot to put it down going through a car wash. So now the mast is snapped and two and the cable is looping out all over. I assume the motor is gonna fry itself out soon because it runs for 10 seconds after you turn the car off (at least it shuts off). I would love to just replace it with a fixed mast antenna, any that would be a direct replacement? Is there anywhere I can get either a fixed mast or power replacement besides the dealer? How much are we looking at for either?

Replacement mast is about $40 from FPN. Instructions, part number, etc are available either via the SEARCH feature or at the FAQs.

You can always just go to a junkyard and pull a fixed mast from any comparable Taurus or Sable. Cost < $5 plus about an hour to remove the old power assembly and to install the new fixed mast.

As usual, SHO89 is correct. Do a full search using my membership number, and all of your antenna questions will be answered. I share your opinion on antennas, and have converted to one fixed, one switch actuated.
