HERE IS ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS. I AM WORKING ON A 95 ATX AND THIS THING IS DRIVING ME NUTS. SO FAR I HAVE GONE THROUGH 2 ICRMS AND 3 EEC FUSES (#3 in fuse panel on driver side label eec). WHAT I NEED IS SOME HELP TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT/WHY THE EEC FUSE ARE BLOWING OUT. IS THIS A BAD EEC OR DO I NEED TO START LOOKING FOR A SHORT SOME WHERE AND WHERE DO I START TO DO THAT? WHEN I REPLACED THE ICRM THIS LAST TIME THE CAR RAN FOR ABOUT A BLOCK THEN JUST DIED. I OPEN HOOD AND CHECKED TO SEE IF IT WAS GETTING FUEL, NO SO I LOOKED AT THE FUSE AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS BLOWN. LIKE A ***** I PUT A 50A FUSE IN (ALL I HAD ON ME AND DID NOT THINK ABOUT THE ABS ONE) AND SURE ENOUGH SMOKE CAME FROM THE ICRM. SO ANY HELP WILL BE GREAT.

ok, for one, you REALLY need to drop the caps lock. I don't know how you slipped by the caps filter.

Second, what letter code IRCM were you using? If it's anything other than a "J" code, it's the wrong IRCM. It should have a big J on the top of it.

Third, you need to specify that it's the engine compartment panel you're looking at. I spent 15 minutes looking for fuse no. 3 on the IP fuse panel. There is no fuse 3. You're talking about fuse C. That fuse only feeds the PCM(EEC) and the IRCM. It's a (thick) yellow wire that goes to pin 1 on the EEC and pins 8 and 12 on the CCRM.

It sure sounds like you got two bad IRCMs, but that would be the first time I've heard of that. I'll list the wires that go inbetween the EEC and IRCM for you.

Data link connector (trouble code connector) - 22 EEC/18 IRCM (that's the pins) (they meet at the connector, but the wire is connected to both)
LFC - 13 EEC/ 14 PCM - T/O (color)
HFC - 31/17 - LG/P
WAC - 54/22 - PK/Y

and that almost seems to be it. I'm sure there's more, but I can't find them. What I would check for is to make sure that the power wire(s) going to the IRCM aren't damaged and somehow transferring voltage to another wire going to the IRCM that's making it wig out and short. the pinouts for the IRCM are listed in a sticky on the electronics section of the forum.

Sounds like wiring, bud. Bad luck. Looks like time to split open that harness and start hunting for shorts!

First: Sorry for the caps thing it was 100+ deg and very humid out and I had just come inside from pushing the car down the street.

Second: The ICRM were both “j” codes and 2 were new from Napa auto and the first was OEM.

Third: I meant the third fuse in, It was a 30 amp fuse (blame on the heat again). My thought on this is a bad PCM (EEC) seeing as when I had to replace ICRM #2 (after replacing fuel pump first then finding out ICRM was bad) it worked for about 2-3 months and now like a retard I fried (I saw the smoke and heard the sizzle) the third one with a larger fuse (50 amp).Is there a fast and easy way to test to see if it’s bad? I will also hook up my code reader to see if it will shed some light on to problem. I have a copy of the sticky info already printed out and used it to check the wire’s at the ICRM and all looks fine there. And I hope it’s not in the harness.

thanks for some insight,

Stephen B from AZ....
