Were some of the Taurus SHO's fitted with smaller fuel tanks?

If so, does anybody have a picture of a smaller tank? Any tanks from the regular Taurus smaller that would work on the SHO?

Reason I ask is that I am doing side exhaust on the SHO, and either I modify a stock tank, or replace it with a smaller Taurus tank if available...

Thanks

16 gallons is a slo tank , some early SHOs has them , smallest you can get. You have to change the sender unit too because the 18 gal is deeper. I dont thing they are smaller in size , only deeper.

All ATX's came with 16.6 unless it was ordered with the bigger tanks. I agree with the post ^ above there just deeper

Both taurus tanks are the same exact size on outside. And the units are the same as well. The only difference is how far the fill tube actually goes inside the tank, I've cut open both size tanks and that is the only difference. They will interchange with no problem.

Side exhaust has been done with the stock tank in place before the rear wheels... are you doing a dump after the rear wheels that would kind of be in the way of the tank?

What I am trying to do is have the same exhaust pathway on the passenger side in front of the tank, like the driver side is on a stock SHO. In which case I will most likely have the tank modified. The exhaust will dump in front of the rear tire. There will be a series of round body mufflers in the center section of the car. Exhaust diameter will be true dual 2.25 from the stock manifold back.

My idea is to have a good sound and fairly high restriction in the back section. Primary ports in the stock manifold is 1.5. Research claims main pipe should be 50% larger than the primary port area. 1.5 -1.6 L four cylinder engines have as large as 2.5 inch exhaust with no low end loss on dyno.

The kicker is a dump 2 - 3 feet from the manifold activated by the secondary system. This bypasses the series of mufflers and allows straight pipe exhaust in the 4,200 rpm on up.

So, the car could have a good tuned bottom end and a tuned top end.
