SLOW acceleration

I have a 94 SHO ATX with a zillion miles on it. I'm having a problem with acceleration (it seems mostly while the car is already moving). I'm no mechanic but here goes...I will try to pass someone and put the petal nearly to the floor (as most 19 year olds do) and the car will accelerate..but at "cruise control acceleration" speeds. I have tried to find out what exactly makes this happen sometimes when I pass and not others...but I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

Has the transmission ever been rebuilt?It sounds like it may be on it`s way out.Not shifting properly is a symptom,and it sounds like it`s just not downshifting.

mine has done that lately....try letting of the trottle and then punching it again....works for me...

I know my tranny is on its way out....I thought this might have been TPS related though...

Also, your OD botton might be on.

sounds more like tune up type stuff or oil in wells or bad wires. i don't see how from this guys question which mentions nothing about a shifting problem you guys came to the conclusion it is a tranny problem ?

They came to that conclusion because it sounds as if the car is not downshifting when he puts the pedal to the floor. The lag he is feeling may be the engine winding up to get into it's power band.

Buddy your tranny is done. That is the same thing my car did just before my tranny puked. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. frown
