Will a slo cluster (with RPM if any) fit a sho? I need to change my cluster and the local j/y has no SHOs.

I've got a SHO cluster and a slo digital cluster somewhere in a box... let me know if you need it. I will be out of town 'til friday, but I still might be able to have someone get it out to you if it's urgent.

They all swap it just a matter of retaining the right features. Some of the LX might have the same or similiar features.

Yea I knew they all fit , my question should be more like: is there any slos with Tachs. Is such a thing exists?

I believe the Sables had tachs, but the RPM redine is much lower... but you're probably going to swap faces anyway...

The Taurus SE and the Sable LTS had tachometers with lower redlines as mentioned, but I've never seen a 140mph speedometer in anything but the SHO.

edit - The police-version of the Taurus did come with a Police Calibrated 140mph speedometer as well, but it's extremely unlikely you'll find one.

I believe you can swap the SHO speedo-head into the SLO cluster, if it's a failed tach you're trying to replace. The trip-odometer is the same. I can get you a complete SHO Cluster, but I'm not in the NE.

Is it the speedo that's failed, or the tach?

I believe its the temp reader its all over the place. It gets hotter then hot and the engine runs at normal temps , and I changed the sender , checked the gounds.

You should be able to swap just the temp gauge from another cluster. If I remember correctly, they just plug in. That way, you would not mess with your odometer.

Let me know if you can't find a temp gauge locally.

Then you haven't seen the police calibrated 140 speedos.

Ok so if my temp gauge went , I only need to change the gauge itself? I mean can any other things that may have failed (that causes my temp gauge to fail) like there a small circuit board behind , inserted in the cluster in the bottom of it , could that be failed too?

No, I've seen ONE in 15 years.

I have seen quite a few 140mph Calibrated Speedometers, but only in police-versions of the Crown Vics. Not to mention that this is in 2000-and-up Crown Vics, because of the rate at which they cycle through police vehicles.

I would not group the Police Calibrated Taurus speedometers into the general group of Taurus or Sables speedometers. I think it's a little misleading to toss-in the police-versions of the regular model Taurus, considering the extreme unlikelihood of finding one in a salvage yard.

You are very much more likely to find a SHO 140mph speedometer, than a Taurus 140mph police speedometer. I know that in ALL the years of junkyard searching I've never seen a police version of the speedometer, but in almost every junkyard I have seen SHO speedometers. And how many do you see on eBay? I recall ONE in more than 10 years of watching for parts on eBay, and then it was in a low mileage SHO from the Las Vegas-area several years ago. That SHO was even discussed here, as everyone here waved the BS flag over the speedometer and the seller pulled the listing as a result. That's the ONLY one.

I would go further to say, that less than 5-percent of salvage yards - and then most likely only in large-market cities - are likely to have a police-Taurus car in their yard. Whereas, many salvage yards are likely to have at least one SHO - and that group even includes small salvage yards in small towns.

Police departments cycle through their vehicles much more rapidly than typical vehicles. Due to the high-mileage place on their police vehicles, most are turned-over in less than 5 years, and even small police forces purge their vehicle fleets before their vehicles come close to reaching 10 years. Anyone remember the flood of NOS Taurus parts that hit eBay 4-5 years ago? That was the result of several large police departments auctioning-off their maintenance inventories after F*** began discontinuing parts for the Gen IIs.

What's the point of sending someone on a salvage yard wild-goose chase, for a 140mph police speedometer? Most here would waste thousands of hours looking in every Taurus and never ever see or find one.

I'll edit my post above.

Do you have (have access to) a Service Manual? It has testing procedures specifically for the FUEL and TEMP gauges. Temperature values displayed on the gauge are based upon resistance values sent to the TEMP gauge, so you'll be able to see if you're getting a valid signal (correct resistance value) at the gauge, as well as if the gauge is displaying properly.

Also check the small slip-fit harness connector that attaches to the temperature sensor. The "connector" is nothing more than a slip-ring (similar to the connector in the spark plug boot) that slides over the threads on the sensor. This connector is corroded to badly corroded on most Taurus and Sable engines I check, that use this connector (3.0L Vulcan, 3.8L Essex, 3.0L SHO, 3.2L SHO).

Here's an update , I bought a 92 sable cluster with tach in a local JY.

I swapped the fuel/temp "module" off it , fits perfectly , its the same part number.

My old temp needle was not "stiff" like all the others (the fuel of the old and the temp of the new , and the fuel from the new unit) , it was rather "free". Im guessing this was the culprit.

I still need to start the car to test it , but Ive repaired some other stuff while I had the dash out and I didnt have time to do it.

Really? I have 3 Certified Calibration Taurus Speedos on my shelf.

Guess some tiny Law Enforcement agency in SoCal used to use them.
