Has anyone created a skidplate for the SHO's subframe?

Ever since I cracked my transmission pan while rallying, I have been afraid of doing it again. In rally-cross they use the skidplates to take the force.

If noone has ever fasioned one, where would it be able to bolt on so that it would be easily removable?

I think I cold easily get my hands on some 1/4" alluminum plates and possibly work with it. Is this realistic at all?

been thinking about doing that on my 93 for a while since the thing sits 3" off the ground. It sometimes bottoms out and I'm afraid one day I'll pop a hole in hte oil pan or something. I just haven't had the time to do it yet. I have a friend who is really good with metal so I might have him try to make one for me once I get the motor swap done.

the subframe is steel, so you could drill and tap it anywhere for the skid plate..

its not square, but you could get a piece of steel or alum and cover the whole thing.

Does the tranny pan sit any lower than the subframe? For some reason I'm thinking it does... at least on us ATXers... This may be a problem I realized.

You just have to build that into the skid plate. Either by shimming the plate down and leaving it flat, or by putting a curve in the plate.

Rallying looks like so much fun! Why would one try this in a Taurus simply facinates me.
