Anybody ever have any luck convincing the WI DOT to just issue them 1 license plate? I know I ended up accidently getting issued only 1 a long time ago, but I don't know.

I just don't want to have it sitting in the windshield or have to find a license plate bracket for the SHO.

BTW I will actully be in the Milwaukee area early July for 1/2 a week.

Thanks a head of time,

I run one plate on my vehicles. The DMV gives me two, but I don't have front plate brackets on the '90 or the truck.

I know my buddy who had the car before me just puts the front plate in the front window. But reading the WI reg's online says that the front plate needs to be mounted at the front most point of the car.

Michelle do you carry the other plate with you at all in the car?

No I don't. It's taken out for track events and sometimes I misplace it for awhile.

I don't think Adam runs a front plate on his '93, but I want to say he has it on the dash (summer car). His '96 has a front plate.

I don't carry the second plate in the truck.

I remember getting questioned on my 2001 Taurus twice for not having a front plate. Once was by an officer when I was getting into my car in a parking lot. He asked me where my front plate was and I told him I didn't want to drill holes in the body kit (yeah, it had a body kit at the time).

The second time was near UW-Whitewater on my way to work. Officer asked about it and gave me a fix-it ticket. Installed the plate temporarily to get the ticket taken care of.

Never had a problem where I am now on any vehicles. I haven't been pulled over in a long time though. Probably helps we only have county sheriffs in this area, so not too many are around.

Nice about just putting it on for the fix-it ticket.

And yea I can totally see only county officers if you live around Whitewater.

I appreciate the responces. I will probably just windshield it and see if anybody says anything just tell them the front bracket broke, lol.

Well I am done with work in 10 mins so I suppose I should get off of the forum, and close this place down.

Enjoy your weekend all!

BTW Michelle I will add a thanks to your posts once I get enough posts to have the "THANKS" button, lol.

we sat on the side of the road and started doing a scout... when we saw headlights coming at us. Turns out an underage party just got busted out there so the sherrif was on a power trip finding a bunch of street racers. lol None of us got tickets.

on this side of the state they get ****** about not having two plates...

Yeah they do.... i had a cop follow me 10 miles on the interstate when driving greenie home, WITH NO PLATES AT ALL... he did nothing, then i get pulled over 1 week later with only a rear plate (before I had a chance to buy a bracket) and I got a fix-it...

Personally i think its stupid because they're not gonna run your plates when youre coming at them, most likely they will run them at a stoplight if they decide to run them for no reason...

I'm sure Jason will chime in if I'm wrong...

Id Check the specifics with the dmv. I was changing my personalized plate from 1 '89 to another a year ago and found out Here in MN only 1 plate is required after vehicle is 20yrs old due to collector status, so '89-'91's are good now and '92's are falling in this year.

I had emailed them and they directed me to a specific website page that basically says you get 2 you need to display 2...front needs to be attached horizontally mounted on the front most part of the vehicle.

ive only owned 1 obdII vehicle, and i hated it. sold it 4 months after i bought the damned thing. Out of all 9 vehicles, 8 of them were obd1. And the sad part is i love old school obd1 - for better mpg, performance, ect.... without all the emisions restrictions and bullsnot.
A few years down the road its going to be harder and harder to get along with these cars. Every damned vehicle that i will get would have collector plates lol

I owned an 87 cutlass during the "dark ages" of the sniff test for non OBD2 cars (and pre 2007 where a collector plate would qualify with one test pass)... I wanted a 96+ car SOOO bad just so the damn thing would tell me what was wrong with it.

I knew the end was near when our 77' 442 with straight pipes and a 68' rocket 350 motor (pre 70's emissions crap) failed the emissions once (nearly double) the guy re-tested the car and it **"miraculously"** passed WAY under the limit... damn that car sounded nice...

i live in a state with no emissions testing, car inspections, or related government control with their hands around your neck...

when i had the 81 Cobra i drove it around town with straight pipes, no smog pump, .030 Bored over, 750 carb and high rise camshaft. Never got in trouble
Its kind of nice not having inspections and such or all my cars would be doomed

WI does require Emissions testing in some area's on OBDII and newer vehicles. My father lives north of Milwaukee and is in a county where it is required.

Luckly the 1st and 2nd gen SHO's will never need to in WI.

A buddy of mine was promoted to Team Leader at the DMV. He's always complaining about a co-worker that drives a CTS that has no fr. plate or bracket, illegal tint and he backs it in at work so the State Troopers see it. Of course he gets harassed about it. It's his fine.

No front plate on my Taurus or bracket and a nice dark cover on the rear one. I don't bother having the fr. one in the car.

Emission test locations would be the perfect place to issue fines for tint/plates as well. :naughty: That would make sense and too much work for the inspectors:laugh_ti:

By state do you mean county?... Pretty much all of what is considered SE WI requires emissions testing.

Unless you have not updated your location information and moved out of state. However WI does require emissions testing, obviously with an asterisk.
