I was reading though the PDF of SHOSHOP, dang XP, and it says that a first step to lossing the fuel pump is a loud whinning sound or a loss all together. :( Um, you know the sound of a the fuel pump when your key hits on before start? Well mine makes that sound constantly! I thought it was the amp at first, but it isn't. Is it that my fuel pump is going!? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. As always, SHO ON!

Eh, I think this should have gone in the engine maintenance section.

I also have an 89. When the pump starts making that noise, they can go very quickly or they can keep chugging away for a very long time. I have 151,000 miles. I think my pump started making the same loud operating noise since about 70,000 miles. Replacing it with a Walbro 190/155 l/hr unit is on my list of stuff to do. Since it still works and I keep forgetting about it, I will probably put it off a good while longer.

When I changed my fuel pump @ 141k miles the sound the new one made was quiet a bit different. The new one has a much lower tone to it (sounds more like a pump that a motor). The old one almost sounded like that was 2 noises, a low pitch (the pump) and a higher whine (the motor dieing a painful death). The only real way know is to put a fuel pressure gage on and check the pressure (39psi is the spec I think).
