Ok so this shell I bought has a spun bearing at least, if not more... motor will only turn about 10 degrees or so. Something is definately binding... Now my question is this.. I don't work on ATX's ever, but this thing has a newly remaned trans, and I want to save it and sell it, but aren't I going to have an issue getting to the TQ converter bolts?

Or can I get that oil pan off, and free the rods to turn it?

I would think that would work, but having the motor bolted in place makes it a lot easier to get a big ass bar on the crank if I need it... as hard as its turning over now, I think I'd flip the stand if it was on there...

I'm going to part the thing, as far as the heads and all that, so the pistons can technically come out the top if I need em to.. ?

Just trying to get all my ducks in a row, before I start on this adventure..

I'm assuming so.. I really don't know yet, as I can't work on things here... these F**Kers seen a jackstand sitting out, and came up in my driveway and noticed my expired California tags.. so they told me to plate it now, or they will tow the thing.

So then I go to do that right? Well.. I bought it back in December, and it says 12/21/09 on the title he signed...

yay! more paperwork in the mail, more waiting, and I went down to the office here, and told them what was going on, and that I would be livid if it got towed. I even have the car parked backwards so you can't see the plate even... grrr..

I had one that was siezed hard (we eventually got it to turn about 90*), and after we got it down to just the block, crank, flywheel and converter, we found a way to get to the converter nuts, so yes, you will find a way to get the converter off.

After you pull the rod caps off, it should turn over, unless the bearings are in bad enough shape that the mains are toast too (which is what had happed in my example).

Wow dude, that would really, really stink hard if they towed it. If you have your title, isnt that all you need? I had the title transfer papers and title from PA when I got mine, and everything went like butter. Does CA do things that way or what?

Yea, but thats just another what 6 or 8 bolts? I don't plan on keeping the block, just taking whats good off it. I gotta talk my friend into a little garage time once school lets out.

Boat's Edit: I have the title, but by looking at it, I have one of these...

You don't need to remove the flywheel bolts at all, do you? Just pull the trans out of the torque converter and toss the engine, flywheel and TC as one big hunk 'O' metal.

I just remember working on an auto truck once, and remember turning the engine over to rotate the flywheel and tq converter, and we could only see one bolt at a time thru the access hole.

I guess I didn't realize that just slid on there.. but I dunno, it was a fresh rebuild.. I would imagine they flushed it out and stuff.. so might as well give someone a clean one if I sold them a trans.. ? Maybe I'm just weird? Never seen a tq converter apart.. lol

ATX's I've never touched... its all new to me.. :)

I bought a pontiac with a seized engine. We pulled all the spark plugs and sprayed some **** into each cylinder. Then with a LARGE breaker bar on the crank bolt and the starter still in it, we kept bumping the starter. Every time it would move a little bit and we were able to get the engine to turn over enough to get all the torque converter bolts out. GOOD LUCK!

At the convention last year a guy blew out his radiator and siezed his motor. That motor wouldn't turn until we disconnected the rods from the crank. One of the pistons litteraly exploded. There was nothing left except aluminum pebbles in the oil pan.

there's a spot on the back of the title where you put the seller's and buyer's name, odometer at sale, date of sale, and purchase price. You then bring the title along with a completed application for title/registration to the RMV. You get your registration on the spot and the title in usually 2 weeks. And yes, we can fill out our own registration paperwork, only catch is it must be signed and stamped by your insurance agent.

On the California title I have, it has an odometer statement the owner has to fill out and sign. On the back I fill in everything, including sale price.. which is backwards of how it is here in Indiana. Thats why they need a bill of sale, plus a Indiana state odometer reading statment. In Ohio, you needed to have things notarized... its different everywhere..

X2. The input shaft should turn allowing the trans to pull off of the TC. Of course the motor and trans will have to be out of the car.
