Part it and crush it or **** it with fire?

Driving home yesterday in the torrential rain, i hit a couple of puddles that were deeper than they looked, and ever since then, I've had a horrible skip.

Started as just 1 cyl, and now it varies from all 6 to as bad as 3 at times. Between 2K and 3K, it runs fine as long as it's not under load. It skips at idle also.

I have pulled both ends off all the wires, they're all dry. I even pulled them singly with it running and it seems as though all are firing, just not all together. Am I looking at an electrical or fuel problem here?

I assume not deep enough to get water in sparkplug wells, From reading I assume those was checked. Pull the codes. I have read enough here to assume maybe the cranksensor. Just my little ideas. Maurice

Kevin, it wasn't that hard a hit...just puddles, but some damn big ones LOL

I was kinda thinking crank sensor too, but couldn't remember correctly. Can it be dried off, or is it *****?

I don't think it's the crank sensor. If the crank sensor was bad it would just shut off, not run rough. If you have a spare cam sensor, try that; that's easy enough to do. Swapping out the DIS is a good place to try, if you have a spare.

Not true I had this problem as he explained with my car and it was the crank sensor. When ever it got wet it would do it to. Check your ground on the back if the intake and pull you dis off clean off the old electrical grease put new on and re-assemble blow out both plugs. And let us know

Ok, I swapped out the one plug that wasn't firing with a known good one, dried what little water there was in the plug well, fired it up...

And now it will idle fine, but still has a dead plug under load. Went to swap out the plug wire to see if that helped, and the wires have been routed UNDER the intake, so now in order to swap wires I'm gonna have to remove the intake.

I'm about ready to just cut my losses...

All of my SHOs have/had the wires routed under the intake--at least I think so. I've never tried to do wires with it on. You can remove the intake in 20 min. though, so it's not a big deal.

If by balance test you mean pulling each wire individually one by one, then yeah... Middle plug on the rear head.

Mostly frustrated 'cause the weather won't cooperate

No, this is the cylinder balance test per SHOPhoenix project (run after KOEO and KOER tests):

Cylinder Balance Test

This is to make sure that all of your cylinders are working right. After you have run the above test, press the gas pedal down again at least 1/2 way, just for a second. The RPM guage will move and the engine will start running a little rough. This is because your computer shut one of the cylinders off. It will do this 5 more times, once for each cylinder. Then it will display the codes.

Three Digit EEC Codes (92-95 SHO)

Two Digit EEC Codes (89-91 SHO)

Cyinder Balance Codes

10 Problem with cylinder 1
20 Problem with cylinder 2
30 Problem with cylinder 3
40 Problem with cylinder 4
50 Problem with cylinder 5
60 Problem with cylinder 6
9 No Problems

And after each time it does this test you can blip the gas again and it will run the test over with a higher sensitivity.

If the car was running fine before the rain, then you know it's definitely the fact that water got in somewhere it shouldn't have. Try swapping the DIS as stated; that's easy and you have one on the red car. If that doesn't solve it, then pull off the intake and make sure all the plug wells are dry. Check the condition of the wires; I could have pinched one under the intake when I re-installed it. A faulty wire will cause an issue. Ask me how I know this because I just ruined a wire on my 89 by accidentally seating the intake on it and pinching it. I removed the intake and replaced all of the wires just in case.

I swapped the DIS, no change. I don't have an air compressor ATM, so I just dryed the plug well as best I could, but it was barely damp. The plug outa the red car was crap, but it still ran better, but not perfect. The platinum you put in still looks ok, so I may try it again. I'm hopefully going to try to loosen the intake enough to swap wires tomorrow, but it figures this week they're giving me long-ass backhauls, so we'll see...

Thanks for the help everybody...Needed to say that.

Could be water on the MAF screwed something up. A big puddle will splash right up and get sucked into the intake. A soaked air filter blocks nearly all the air through it as well, and can even stall your car.

I got that one covered... I cleaned the MAF first, so I know it's good. Thanks though.
