Should I get a resonator?

The 1994 SHO I bought came with dual Borla mufflers. They are quite loud. I thought of perhaps doing sound insulation in the car but that seems rather expensive. I asked previous owner and the car does lack a resonator and so I was thinking of the Magnaflow resonator at SHOsource. I'm curious if anyone would know how much quieter adding a resonator would make the exhaust as well as change in tone. I guess I'd get a hit on HP as well, I assume if so it be marginal/unnoticeable.

Any loss of power you might feel will be minimal. A quality resonator, like Magnaflow, will quiet things down. Exactly how much and how is hard to say. Probably your best option at this point.

A resonator will mainly ki ll the rasp. If you have no resonator(s) with those Borlas, I'm sure that the car has godawful rasp under acceleration. A good resonator (or two) are the key to making any muffler sound decent on any V6.

Thanks. I guess there is no way of doing the end result until I fit the resonator.

Well, the good news is you can find a place that can cut and splice anything in there. So you can change mufflers if you want, add more resonator(s) if you want. The only real consideration is if it sees salted roads and what the materials are.

I have the original Borla full catback (pic). It's got a really nice sound, not loud like Flowmasters, and the sort of ripping cloth sound. At least one local club member said he was going out to buy one after he heard mine. So having a resonator (I lightened it in the picture for visibility) can make the mufflers sound nice. It is joined at the resonator like the OEM was, it might be interesting to hear the system as true duals but it would be tough to find room for a second resonator.

According to SHOsource in regards to the Magnaflow resonator they sell I'm looking at a max length of 18" for a resonator with the car having a rod shifter. I was looking at that Magnaflow resonator, the Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator and the Vibrant 18" Bottle Style resonator. Don't know the practical difference between the Vibrant Ultra Quiet and the Bottle Style but apparently people like the Ultra Quiet over the Magnaflow, at least in other car applications. Local muffler shop only has non stainless glaspacks and I'd prefer stainless.
