I got a shoshop STB used and there is a part broken on it and I was wondering if I could get it at a hardware store or do I have to get it from Vadim. The little part on the end with a loop and it is threaded into the brace itself. When I got mine it was bent awfully bad and like an idiot, I tried to bend it back....you know what happened. Can I find something like that in a hardware store? Or do I have to pay Vadim $30 bucks for it from shoshop? shoot

MSC? What/where is that exactly? I guess I can remove the other side one that isn't broken and go and shop around. Thanks for the tip bro! Oh BTW I was checking your profile, and we are exactly ONE DAY apart in age! Kinda cool! thumbs_u

Hey JH -

Is that an exact cost from SHO Shop? Shipped?

Reason I ask is, are you going to waste 4 hours of your time & your gas going from place to place trying to find the exact one, & if so, are you worth $6 per hour & the cost of the part wherever you find it?

Devil's Advocate only. :)

Fred,
I just got the part in tonight. I was halfway joking. Maybe Vadim would ship me that part for less, but I DO need it. I guess I could call tomorrow and ask him or Tom. But then I would have to wait 2 months for it to come in too...

I've never seen a SHOShop STB up close, but it sounds like you are describing a Rod End Bearing.

Is this what you're talking about?

I can't remember ever seeing them at Home Depot or Lowes, but it can't hurt to look.

If you strike out there, you can probably find them at a repair shop at any local airport. They are quite commonly used on airplane control surfaces. Just bring the old one with you.

Another place to try would be any place that repairs farm machinery, they're also commonly used there.

Summit racing has them. Now the Q is, is it standard or reverse threading? find out the thread size. they are 2.95-11.95 depending on size and thread style. They're called rod ends. SUM-MSM5 is a part number to get you in the group.

Cool guys that will get me a start... thumbs_u Well I know that it is righty tighty, so that would be standard threads correct? so how would I go about measuring the dimensions in order to get the correct one from Summit?

No luck at our ACE hardware...I am going to post it on our local street scene site and see if I get any bites. Also I am going to call Vadim to get the dimensions on the part they use in the STB.

It`s nothing custom, just a standard rod end bearing.Does anyone have an MSC catalog handy?I can`t find a web site for them via an internet search.

www.mscdirect.com I believe. I don't think MSC sells to individuals though. I think they're the ones I tried to order sorbent pads from & ended up not being able to get them without being a business. Oh well, my money went elsewhere.

Well I called Tom at the shoshop and asked him if I could get the dimensions of the part. He said they were "custom made" and his guy didn't make the carbon fiber strut tower braces. So basically he avoided my question altogether. My next one is wether the 68mm throttle body they sold was for both the mtx and atx. The first thing he said was "don't waste your money" I told him that I got it for a song, he said AGAIN "well you won't get any HP gains from it" and I told him I was going to get a stage 2 or 3 next year, but I wasn't looking to get HP gains now. Then I asked him again if I could talk to the guy that makes the STB since he mentioned that he was there. He said after a pause that he 'was busy'. I ended the call there..I guess I will just measure the part myself and order from summitracing.com since they have the part listed, I just need to know the dimensions.

Well, quite honestly, they're in it to make money, not give away the store or the secrets. I personally would have preferred a direct statement to that effect, but realistically, I don't think you can blame them. You just asked them to not feed their kids that day.

This is, of course, without going into the whole, "is it worth $30 for a $1 part" debate.

Good luck in finding your part Jeremy.

okay...well I have a couple of industrial places some guys on my local street scene said to call tomorrow. If not I can order it from summitracing.com Thanks guys. Do YOU know what the throttle body of the MTX looks like? I guess I could go out to mine and look. But I think I have one for a MTX. The TB spring looks pretty wide.

To say the rod bearing is a custom made part is just silly. You can buy reverse thread one`s too.If you can`t find one,let me know.I`ll see what i can do here.

The ATX and MTX throttle bodies are not the same. They even have different part #`s.I unfortunately found out the hard way.I had polished one for my car only to find out they aren`t interchangable. The problem is the the cable`s are set for different lengths. With an MTX one on your car the cable won`t be long enough. You may just be able to swap the plates, but i`m not 100% sure.

Fred-I`ve ordered 2 rod ends thru MSC before for a total of $3.It was thru my work account though,so maybe that does make a difference?

Probably does make a difference. I am not sure (or fastener knowledgable) to know if the rod end is a female or male. I know that it tightens and loosens like any normal bolt, it is 3/8 size (and the loop opening is the same since the bolt part fits PERFECTLY inside it) and if you can get me one cheaply JT, I would appreciate it bro! I will look over the weekend here, but if no luck, I will get back to the board!
