First off, what shop manuals are the best to use for 2nd gen SHOs? I have a '93, is it best to just order the Ford shop manual, or are there better ones out there (I have all the ShoShop guides). IS there a cheaper source than the dealer for these? EBay?

I talked to my dad and he said he'd be willing to help with the valve alignment, and he's plenty capable to do that and timing and all that happy stuff. The other cool part is that we can order parts from a Ford dealer (water pump, timing belt, plug wires, etc) and he gets a discount since he's a Ford employee, and they ship them free to his work. Woo, go me. :)

Now I just have to save up for the valve alignment kit from SHOShop with the tools/shims. (The one where you use it and send it back), and I should be all set. :)

Best manual is the HELMS. I bought mine from a SHOFORUM member who was selling several but it's been a while back and since there's no classifieds section you can't search for it either. I've seen them floating around on ebay and there is a place that sells them new for around 70 bucks just can't remember who. Maybe someone can help me out (shoman94 were are you). I think thats who told me.

The factory service manual published by Helm is the only solution. The chiltons and haynes are full of errors which can get you in trouble quick. Heck, they can't even get the spark plug wire order correct.

I agree. The Helm manual is the way to go. I have both the Helm and the Chilton. Let's just say that my Chilton is somewhere on one of my bookshelves (I don't even know where) and the Helm is on my coffee table... That tells you how much I use the Helm. :D

Check ebay. They pop up all the time. Also one of the vendors on there who sole me one is Dave's Books. Check him out in ebay vendors and drop him a line to see if he has any more.

The Taurus/Sable Ford/Helms shop manual includes the SHO.

Another thing you might consider in addition to the helms manual is one of the Ford CD's on eBay (~$20), that includes all the info from the helms manual, plus the EVTM manual (Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual), and the PCED manual (Powertrain Control & Emissions Diagnostics) which are separate in printed form. I find it handy when I'm at home and want to look something up and the helms manual is in the car, or I've loaned it to someone...

On eBay, use the keyword search: ford service cd

The TRI STATE SHO/SVT guys are getting together on the 24th at a park just east of Toledo, you are welcome to come and talk to lots of SHO "experts". If you can keep the car down for a few days, open it up, order the shims (can we still order them?) then put it back together.
