Well my car will not start. I was driving with the check engine light on for about a week-I know, not the right thing to do, but I just dished out so much cash on suspension, tires and labor. Anyway I come out of the store and the car is barely cranking ,I mean a three slow cranks, Then everything including accessories went dead. My first idea was that the alternator did not charge the battery correctly, I had my bro try to jump the car and power was restored as soon as the cables were attached to the battery. The accesories also powered up but still VERY very low and slow cranks(maybe three cranks) and it goes completly dead again. I then had my sis bring her Tahoe to do the charge (more crank amps avail) But still three few slow cranks and there was no start. What could it be? Please help? MAYBE camshft positon sensor? I have A new battery, starter, but alternator is not new. I have a new one in the garage waitng to be installed , But wouldn't the car still start if I tried to jump the car?--- 93 atx 135k

Could be your battery cables or the alternator or both. If the alt has been bad long enough, your new battery may be toast too.

Jumping a electronic ignition car like the SHO with a both a dead battery and a bad alternator can be difficult. It might start, but soon after the jump power is removed, it will die again. If your battery cables and/or terminals are in poor condition, even the biggest, bestest SUV may not be able to jump start you.

Start by charging the battery fully with the battery cables disconnected (this will also be a good time to examine the terminals and the lugs to make sure everything is clean and tight).

While the battery is charging, install your new alternator. Once the battery is fully charged, reconnect the terminals, start the car, and reset the idle speed program. I'd recommend making your next trip to AutoZone, Sears, NTB, etc. for a free charging system and battery test. If the battery fails the test (i.e. won't hold a charge), you should have it replaced under warranty (and make sure the new batty is fully charged before starting and driving the car), otherwise it will bring an early death to your new alternator.

FWIW, reading the code(s) causing the CEL is FREE! :) You can learn how to do it with something as simple as a paperclip or short piece of wire by clicking on one of the links in my signature. I doubt your CEL was battery-related unless it started with a battery light and as the voltage dropped it started wreaking havoc with your PCM.

I pointed to one under the hood and maybe one in the glovebox- but he said it should be a different one. Anyone know where its located

Your EEC Connector should be located inside the engine bay near the rear on the plastic trim piece near the firewall. There should be two connectors there. One for the EEC, the other for the ABS. I know autozone can read OBD2, I am not sure if they use the code scanner for EEC IV, which is what the SHO has.

Good luck!
