Howdy all,

I might be looking at swapping shocks while on my mission to not get brake fade when hitting the brake at 85mph+. And, so I know that fade is almost impossible to prevent with a beast like ours, I would at least like to see about controlling some of this "rockage" when I romp on it.

Yes, I know that spring swaps handle this a lot more, but I really am interested in some shocks that might improve the performance of the car and kind of stiffen it up a bit. Not interested in springs just yet. For those who have the H&R's, do they work well?

Does anyone know of a good set that would work with our application? If this has been discussed here previously ad nauseum, I'm sorry - please point me to the correct thread if so!

uh shocks won't help your brake fade... try slowing down for now

its a 4400lb boat not a lotus

you can always order some hawk brake pads or EBC redstuff ceramic pads

drive safe :)

They will if they can handle keeping that 4400 LB boat from nose diving under braking. Controlling weight transfer certainly have a effect on braking.

As far as I know, H&R's are your best option. That is until someone makes a Coilover or even a Adjustable strut (Koni?) for this car.

the nose dive isn't as bad as you might think

if you drive one hard enough to fade you shouldn't be driving like that in the first place. the car is just way too big on a track or off :naughty:

i've been doing my racing for years and all stock brake fading problems were cured with upgraded aftermarket pads, and yeah i've tried lots of pads/rotors, its all about that Initial Bite!

as for nose dive for a stock vehicle its pretty good go to 5:51

Well, I received an email today from Hennessey Performance who I think is going to assist me with the Maxboost 445 upgrade. They tell me that Performance Friction makes a front and rear brake upgrade:

http://www.performancefriction.com/Repository/Files/PFC_Sports_Car_BRAKE_CATALOG.pdf

The big issue is price - they want $4,000 for the upgrade but I am not sure if this is $2,000 for the front and $2,000 for the rear or just $4,000 for the front and if that includes rotors, calipers, pads and lines. They didn't exactly inform me of this and by the time I got the email (it was a long day), they were closed. If it's $4,000 for both then I am jumping on board - - - yes I hate the brakes that much. See sig.

See, the problem is with brake fade is that I sometimes get the problem if I hit the brakes with a little force even at 70 mph. The braking on my fusion was quite phenomenal with EBC Redstuff pads and EBC 3GD vented rotors (btw, 3GD rotors and Greenstuff pads on the 06-10 Edge finally makes it possible to tow a 4,000lb boat with EASE).

I like what simple shock swaps do with heavier vehicles. I'm not in love with lowering springs as I have seen over and over again what they do to shocks that are riding at a height that they weren't intended to ride. Yes I know that I can't compare our cars to a truck, but simple shock swaps on trucks are amazing for their dynamic. Take an F150 and swap with Bilsteins and you're driving a whole different truck.

I like to play in the sand a lot at the Tx Motor Speedway. I grew up modding and tweaking many a mustang in my life. I was going to hold out and buy the 5.0GT but I fell in love with the SHO when I saw it on the showroom floor on 8/8/09!

SHOSpazz, I can't find anything other than H&R's on TireRack and some of the other "discount" autoonline dealers. I've put them in my cart so many times but just can't seem to populate my credit card number into the fields! Do those who have H&R's think they're worth it?

man i don't want to seem like a big complainer

but that PFB site is terrible do they even list a rebuild kit? theres no info on the kit either... is it a 6 piston 4 piston? what size of rotor? is it a universal pad? you should contact them

but thanks for posting that info its good to know another aftermarket company is supporting our cars

Well, performance friction is dynamite, so I'm not faulting their crappy website as a lack of their professional quality. I simply didn't even consider PFB because I didn't even think the SHO would be worthy of their time. Thank goodness I was wrong.

Although I have much more experience with EBC and Brembo, I have had friends and acquaintences install PFB systems on their cars and are instantly converted. I have not had the chance to drive a car with a PFB system installed but their name is big.

I am, however, very interested in their kit - I'm not all that sold on stainless steel brake lines due to their reputation for "instant failure" since you can't check them. So not interested in that, but a 4-piston caliper with a slightly oversized rotor and some good brake pads would be a-ok by me.

I can't speak to their whole line of product, but I had a horrible experience with the Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads on my '92 when it was fitted with Mustang GT calipers and the requisite PFCM pads. Apparently at some point, the formulation changed, and not for the better, either.

Brake fade was pretty substantial, and heat generation... well...

i'm wondering if we should all start harassing racingbrake.com to make us a kit/set

i emailed them in august and got the reply "no near term plans to make rotors for it"

but maybe they'll make us a big brake kit?

Well, I figure that this is my curse for not jumping on the Fusion big brake kit that Brembo made for it. I just couldn't see the justification in a car that already had decent braking to begin with. With those EBC rotors and pads, the braking was insane. One time I broke so quickly on the infield track that the car shut off.

Racer, that's some mad heat on those pistons. I've seen that happen with Hawk HPS pads MANY times (last case on my Fusion) but never saw that happen with a stang caliper.

I know that these have to come with some kind of warranty, and you can bet that I'm going to be checking frequently throughout the period to make sure that there's no issue. I'm ready to do whatever I have to do because this OE braking system is horrible. I give an A+ to the car in just about every other way, especially those seats with the active contour is just frickin' awesome, but whoever decided that they were going to use the same braking system on the rear as they use in the Flex, and the same system on the front as they use in the MKS, MKT, and non-SHO Taurus.........SHAME ON YOU!

So, if that means that I have to harrass racingbrake.com if they want to make something, I'll do whatever I can. We need to see if enough people are interested in a group buy. This is shameful for me to say but I'd drop 5G's in a second if Brembo announced that they made a front and rear big brake system for the SHO.

TCE does and I have a set on my fronts. No fade at all and very consistent stopping power. I am thinking of doing the rears as well, but meth might be first.

Holy guacamole!

I received this email today from Performance Friction:

"You are correct on the part numbers for the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO Big
Brake Kits. They are listed as Z-rated kits that will have calipers (ZR
31monoblock), rotors (.0001 dimpled, .0002 = slotted), Z-rated street
pads, brake lines and hardware. Calipers will be the ZR-31 which is a 4
piston/ 4pad monoblock configuration. Rotors will be larger than OEM but
details are not yet determined. All kits are Special Order status and
for those not yet measured and built there is an approximate 10-12 week
lead time (applies to these). Retail prices are $3,875/front dimpled set
and $3,475/rear dimpled set (slotted runs $100 more per set). These
custom built sets are order driven and not returnable. We offer the best
built, highest performing brake kits on the market and race teams around
the globe have been winning on our set ups. "

So, ummm....yeah.....First-SHO, what's the info for TCE and about how much did you pay?

Correct http://www.tceperformanceproducts.com/flex-/-sho/kits-23/

This is just for the fronts right now. I was the test subject for the kit, and had a lot of on off before the final product was done. It is very easy to install, but depending on you wheels you use, you may or will require spacers. I added longer wheel studs on my setup and use a .500 spacer in front.

I have been considering doing the rears, but Meth injection I think will come first.

You just need to make sure you have clearance. If you do get the TCE kit and have any questions, feel free to ask, but Todd at TCE will be a big help as well.

I thought this was a thread about shocks??? Anyway, I don't know if they are available for the SHO but I had Edelbrock's on a vehicle a few years ago, and really liked them. They were pretty reasonably priced and I believe they had a lifetime warranty.
