So when I first got my sho it started up very quickly, but recently it has taken longer and longer to start, until yesterday when it didnt start. Turned the key and nothing. I thought it was because of the loose positive battery terminal which was missing a screw, so I replaced it and now it cranks over and over but does not start and there is a strong smell of gas. The night before when i was driving it, the check engine light came on and the tach wasnt working. Could I still pull codes even if it doesnt start?

im 95% sure that your problem is the Camshaft Position Sensor.
however, yes you can pull your codes still.do that then that will let you know for sure.

Yes, you can still pull codes (KOEO).

Sounds like you've flooded it. Hold the pedal to the floor and crank in 10 second bursts (give it a minute between bursts). It will eventually clear out the excess fuel and allow the engine to run.

Cam sensor faults usually manifest themselves as hard starts, bucking, and stalling. You might have one of these faults, some more diagnostics are in order to see if this is the case.

Trying projectsho89's method, i did the burst things a couple times and then the next time it cranked really slow like it was losing power, then i tried again and then it didnt crank at all, when I had the key in the on position the tach was at 500 then when I turned the key to start it, it went to zero and nothing happened. Also how do I pull codes if I cant start the engine?

so the dis and the strap seem to be good, after giving it a rest I tried again, this time i got some cranking, and kept trying until it wouldnt crank anymore. Checked the battery with a voltmeter, got an even 10V from the battery.

Put a charger on that thing, 10v is awfully low and anything lower will likely wreak havoc with engine electronics. Check the battery voltage again after you've charged it too. It may be worthwhile to have the battery checked at an autoparts store (hey, rule out the simple stuff).

The codes are indicative of a cam/crank position sensor issue. The cam sensor is used to determine the timing when starting the motor, but even if it fails, the car theoretically should still be able to start eventually from what I've read. A properly working crankshaft position is vital to have a running motor though, without it you are certainly dead in the water.

How many miles on the car? Have the cam/crank sensors ever been replaced to your knowledge?
