SHO got 22mpg all highway...

Well I took my SHO on a 400 mile road trip this past week and I only got 22mpg!!! I'm guessing it's time for a full 60k and tune up! Any other things that I might need to look into?

not bad for such an old car. I pulled an all highway just to see what I could get for best and got 28

My brother's SHOs always get great gas mileage. I think I just need a good weekend to tear into it and fix everything!

Damn!! I have done all the required maintenance, both 60k's, no codes, and car runs flawlessly. But the best I get out of my 91 is 21 MPG most of the time. And most of that is highway.

Also, if they change the gas in your area for winter that usually effects mileage as well. Around here I usually get 2-3 mpg less in the winter. Plus its an ATX and they usually dont do quite as well on mileage. A tune up and 60k never hurts though.

400 miles just sounds like one tank. Due to the variance in gas pumps, you may need to get a better sample, like always filling (if possible) at the same station.

FWIW, I had a lot of tests on my original '89 with trips from Chicago and KY back to Michigan. I found that things like gas quality (RFG in IL & KY versus REAL non-alky gas), tire pressures, and even old oil could change the mileage. Plus I would consistently get lower mileage in colder weather (and also very hot weather).

Yep,here in Florida we get ******** 10% ethanol gas (don't get me started on that subject).
My Civic for example gets about 3-4mpg more when fueling up at out of state pumps.

The cold weather REALLY effects Ashley's 3.2 MTX. For most of our trip out to California the weather was between 30 and 43 Degree's (The highest being 43 Degree's on the California/Arizona border). The car got a Constant 25 MPG with maybe one or two 26 MPG tanks in there. On the way back it was the same story, until we hit Oklahoma and the weather warmed up to 55 Degrees +, The Gas Mileage went up to 27 MPG. When the roads flattened out and it got up to about 60 Degree's we saw one 28 MPG tank followed by a 30 MPG tank.

I have a 93 atx and haven't gotten over 22 miles to the gal and I have pulled the intake off and gave it a good cleaning, cleaned the EGR tube plus new EGR, did a front 60k and new rod bearings. Up here in the Northwest in Portland, have a lot of hills but still I think it should do better than that. Some say 30? Wow I would be happy to get 28 now that the price of gas has gone up to 3.32 a gal. But I do get about 17 around town.

Gas plays a huge role in mpg... I drive 100% city in my 96(have not seen 60mph in a month). This summer I was getting 15mpg. Now that its winter with ethanol fuel I am getting 11-12mpg.
