Has anyone ever swapped a sho engine into a 5spd super coupe? I think that would be a cool drift car. I love my sho being fwd. Deffinatly handles in the corners, but having a super coupe thunderbird sho would be crazy. Thats a must do motor swap in my future.

Awesome idea offroad_SHO. Would you happen to have pics?id love to see it. That really is a great idea, i wonder if it ever has been done. How much power would it make with a slightly ported blower. I feel a future project coming up. Just need a supercoupe and another parts sho.

a supercoupe is significantly heavier than a SHO, and the supercoupe stock had about twice the torque of the SHO, so I would expect it to be a dog unless you put a turbo/supercharger on the motor to give it more "go".

This is a second car for you right? It's at an age where if you drive it regularly you will be chasing old parts or wiring issues. If you throw a blower on it that will severely complicate things. Not saying don't do it, just have access to another vehicle to do things like work and acquire food.

Having both cars, I can attest to the comment above. the super coupe is heavier and has substantially more torque. Both cars are fun but have totally different personalities, and power delivery methods. If you want the sc stick with the supercharged 3.8, the 330lbs of torque makes for fun acceleration.

I'm happy to share my experiences. My 94 had alot of deferred maintenance by the previous owner. Plugs are very hard to get at, and like the SHO it is a more expensive car to maintain if your taking it to shops. Having taken care of those issues my biggest issue was cooling. the radiator is rather small because the intercooler takes up alot of space. Ford also chose to run very high cooling system temps (220 low speed on and 228 high speed on for 94-95, slightly lower in the 89-93) with a narrow window before being too hot which head gaskets are an issue. If any of the air scoopes and such under the front bumper are missing and you have any cooling issues to start with you'll have cooling issues. Having fixed the air damn, and shrouds underneath, as well as having a 180 thermostat and very important chip to revise fan on and off temps I now have no cooling issues. In 111 desert heat the car will stay at or under 200. Before it was constantly hitting 230.If you do not revise the fan temps the car will still have issues even with a lower temp thermostat.

Suspensions also are different, the ball joints in the front are prone to wear as they are undersized for weight of the bird. Get good moog parts, as I had a new ball joint fail with about 5k miles on me, while on the fwy. The adjustable shocks are available from tokico to keep the auto ride functional.

After getting the bugs from lack of maintenance worked out, it's been a fun reliable car. Driven it from socal to texas and back. It may be heavy but it is very quick, and may seem soft and slightly float in the soft suspension setting, but it is a blast in the mountains in firm ride, it feels like a BMW (6 series was it's design target in 89). Will easily break the rear end loose and wet traction be very careful when accelerating. Highway passing is very easy, almost instant.

Thanks for the advice. I think i might trade my beloved sho for a sc. I love my sho to death and i still daily drive it. But a sc would be more fun in this nj climate. Haha. Wet roads and sliding are my specialty. Haha

I personally can't see anyone getting either of these cars this day and age unless you are trying to collect them. The platforms ooffer almost nothing in terms of generic performance that can't be bested elsewhere. Now if this was fifteen years ago...

Really the only reason I still have mine is to restore it and keep it or pass it on as an odditity.

I have both. 91 sho plus and a 90 sc. Haven't driven the sc yet, but I hope it's as much fun as the sho when I'm done with it (stock rebuild).

Some of us prefer older cars I guess, or are more sentimental than others. I am 36 and can't say there have been many new cars that I really get excited about. Cars of my youth approximately 1985-1995 do it for me, everything since is just to bland or too generic etc. I got into a discussion with someone else about this, and basically I like the fact that when I park my SHO or SC when I go some place, there is never another one there. Can't say that for the guy into hondas or imports.

I agree 100 percent tommyturbo. I love my sho and not quite a sc but my first car was an 83 tbird 5.0. I've had a bunch of different cars foreign and domestic but I've never heard wow is that a mazda?

I know that's right. I've had my sho just 2 or 3 months. Had a water leak so I opened the hood at the gas station and began adding water when I heard something I've never heard about any car, much less a 24 yr old "taurus". A girl walking by stopped, looked, and said "that's a sexy motor". You don't get that with a Honda. Lol

My favorite question when people look inside my sho.... how much did it cost to have it converted to a manual trans?
