Hey everyone:

Well I was driving around the city today and about 1hr into it my SHO stalls at an intersection when the light goes green. I figure I was in 3rd instead of 1st and restart with no problem. I go into a parts store for about 20min, return to the car and head out. About a minute later the SHO stalls at a stop sign. This time it starts but idles very low and uneven, pressing on the gas does nothing. It stalls and I try several times to restart and drive, no go. The tach is always moving when cranking and running rough. I wait for 2 min and restart, everything is perfect for like 2 blocks then it runs rough and stalls out. I decide to tow it home rather than get stuck on the freeway.

Here are the codes:

KOEO:
11 - System OK
12 - Idle to low

KOER:
21 - ECT out of range
41 - Running Lean

I suspect the fuel pump because it has been very noisy for the last year, gives the occasional hard start and the car runs slower as the tank empties. Immediately after I fill it up it responds quicker. So can I rule out the CPS, etc?

And Rick if you read this, did you have similar symptons before your pump failed?

After it stalls and fails to restart, do you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the ignition key to ON? If the pump isn't running for about 1.5 seconds each time you turn the key ON, the pump has retired. It does sound like a fuel pump issue.

Yes, I forgot to add that I can still hear the fuel pump prime everytime I try to start it. So that makes me believe that it gets power but it's fuel output is too weak.

That may very well be the problem.

However, it is possible that it is not.

You can proceed in one of two ways: 1) Replace the fuel pump and hope that resolves the problem or 2) Connect a Fuel pressure guage to the fuel rail test port, measure the pressure, and see if you have a problem with pressure.

Guessing usually leads to frustration with a vehicle. Troubleshooting usually leads to repairing the vehicle.

I wouldnt ignore the code for the ECT sensor, i recieved that code and had the problems your having, untill one morning at a stop light my car died and did not restart. It was the ECT Sensor. Replaced it and everyting is fine. The old one was plastic, but the new one is metal, were the stock original ones plastic? I do not know too much about the history of my car. But i do know i've had to fix alot things!!!
